If you could ask your favorite artists to cover the songs of your choice to make an album, what would they be. I'm working on mine. Some of these have already been done and are so kick ass they deserve a spot.

Marilyn Manson - Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode)
    Korn - One (Metallica)
System of a Down - California Uberalles (Dead Kennedys)
Incubus - Wish you Were Here (Pink Floyd)
Mars Volta - Revolver (Rage Against the Machine)
White Stripes - Kiss Off (Violent Femmes)
Rollins Band - The Man (Johnny Cash)

    I'm still thinking.:ylsuper:

Why not just burn your own cd and not bother the band?
    :lalala:

I think I have too many to list, how many songs can we have?

They have to record the song first. Sheesh. Unless Piracy has taken on a whole nother level.:satana:

Enough to fill a standard size cd. So if you like punk you could fit around 30 songs on it.

For me off the top of my head I would say it would be cool for Porcupine Tree to cover about any of the Floyd tunes before the split.

I also think it would be cool if someone remade Rush 2112, Maybe Porcupine Tree could do that as well.

I would like to hear NIN do some Bowie. Reznor's work with Bowie was perfect.

It's hard to say. Most bands I like, I hear live. Most bands who play live do a cover or two. A good portion of the bands I listen to, are improv based, and therefore a "cover" is just a head arrangement. So I can't think of anything, but I feel better that Gutter couldn't either :bananalam and it was his thread.

Something funny about all of it - it's perfectly allright, accepted, and expected that jazz and blues acts do "standards". Basically the same thing, except they're actually adding art to it by means of improv. I guess that's the difference.

The only thing Manson's done in the last number of years after a couple OK hits, were covers. Which is kinda sad - suggests that someone can put a concept behind him and make it sound good, but he can't create much actual music.

Well, I do think it'd be interesting for me, to see some talented acts of today start covering the less-overdone funk songs by guys like Parliament and Sly/Family Stone. I don't mean hearing some teen pop act covering Bill Withers' Lovely Day for some Gap commercial, but it really would be fun to have an act come out that comes with the above ideals, without being image-based, and with a strong chick vocal going back over funk hits. Brand New Heavies but more focused.
