I want Larry Johnson and a couple WRs. I would rather pickup a FA qb. Both teams with #1 QB draft picks last year have the same record as us. Why pick up a rookie QB and throw him to the wolves?

I'd like to see his 40 time before spending that high a pick on him. If he runs sub 4.5 - he might be worth it. If he runs 4.6 or 4.7 no way. He and McGahee are similar backs but I would still lean to McGahee just a little. Johnson might be a bit more shifty a runner but McGahee's vision might be better. Tough call though.

Johnson runs like Ricky Williams and he is the best back in the league as far as I'm concerned.

Johnson is certainly impressive. He reminds me of a very talented guy that never did squat. Lawrence Phillips. Thankfully he doesn't have the attitude LP had, but he is big and shifty in a very unique way. If he has Phillips speed - he could be a great NFL back. I have seen 4.7 forty times for LJ however, so teams will definately have to see him run to spend a first rounder. If he runs in that range - look for him to last to the second round. I'd grab him there regardless. ;)

Don't get too hung up on 40 times for RBs. I don't think Emmitt Smith never had a decent 40 time and he did pretty well.)

  8. As Cosmik and Sly said, trade down and get as many picks as possible. Then have a field day on the FA list. There are too many holes to fill on this team.

Do you really think GOOD players like Price and Pace are going to want to join the chaos here when they can probably get at least the same cash to play for a winning team with immediate playoff expectations? Aside from the FA G they got from the Jets years ago (O'something) they have not been able to land a single decent FA and we are now in the same boat. At the bottom of every free agents wish list.

BTW - Don't even mention Big Daddy. Wilkenson got the hell out just as soon as he could but at least he did more for them than Gilbert did for us.

Relative value is horrid for trades lately. Like I've said before, you have to have a willing partner, you can't just name the spot where you'd want to be and how much you want. You also can't petition the league to make somebody trade...you have to have value and a guy stupid enough to want your position enough to pay. The 49ers are the only ones who are really savvy at this, lately, so I wouldn't expect we could ever get a deal done.

It sounds really great in theory, but most things do. It'd be great to make two trades and have a lower first, two extra seconds, and an extra third, but that's the goal of half the teams out there on draft day.

Certainly, but remember that Emmitt made a lot of yards before contact and his speed dropped him to the second. Johnson's a quality back, and he should go at least in the middle second if he runs that type speed...but he'll get a speed coach, run a 4.49, and become a millionaire.
