So many ironic morals to this story,,,,,,, never say never, be careful what you wish for... I happen to agree with LarryD, I "could" see this happening, but I'll be surprised if it does, for the reasons mentioned above, first and foremost being JR and the image he has attempted to convey about this organization's "class" and what is expected.

The Carolinas ARE the "Bible Belt", however that don't mean we don't give a person a 2nd chance. Vick has no doubt did a very horrible thing, but he's paid for it, afterall he's DONE THE TIME. He appears to be willing to make public appearances (for PETA's sake I'm sure) to speak against what he did. And for that matter, a contract would be easy to draw up with him making financial donations to PETA, with the stipulation they can NOT protest at the stadium, or else Vick's financial obligations to them are finished, in other words try to minimize the circus as much as possible.

In the past I've been as big a Jake critic as anyone, Lord knows his 6 TO's in a playoff game was a crime too,,, but this isn't about Jake, its about whats best for the team. I think they AT LEAST have to consider this,,, that Jake is your starter this year with Vick the backup,,, then next year when Jake is then 35, who knows, next year Jake may be ready to step down. Vick would definitely give this team another offensive weapon that we don't have right now, with some very good years left in his career on the field.

I've been accused of being a "Jake-hater" (well I'm not),,, but I believe some of you "Vick-haters" need to forget about him playing with Atlanta (thats over with),,, and consider "can he help us"? I say yes.

Well Lord knows they've all had "poor play" at times,,, again from a football standpoint, it all comes down to whether the Panthers' brass believe the guy has enough "good play" in him that he's worth a shot.

    From ESPM Insider:

Today, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is saying the Steelers do not appear to have shut the door completely on the topic of Michael Vick. "In short," the article notes, "[Mike] Tomlin didn't rule out the Steelers having interest in Vick despite being given a second chance to do so since training camp start." Elsewhere, Carolina coach John Fox is still "dancing on the Vick subject," according to ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas.

Yesterday, we noted that a source with knowledge of Michael Vick's negotiations with NFL teams has told The Washington Post that at least five teams are interested in signing him.
While our current counter does still allow for precisely five teams, it's also quite possible that teams are performing behind-the-scenes due diligence in spite of publicly denying interest.

Tuesday morning on ESPN's "Mike and Mike in the Morning," former NFL head coach and current Vick mentor Tony Dungy expressed his sentiment that "something's gonna happen this week," regarding Vick signing with a new team.

On Monday, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio spoke with Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome, who, in response to a direct reference to his possible interest in Vick, stated "We're happy with our three quarterbacks."

I can't take credit or blame for this opinion, I did not come up with it, I just heard about it.

Question #1. Was Vinny Testeverde not signed by the Panthers when he was like 90 years old, and had been off an active roster for at least a year?

    Answer #1. Yes

Question #2. If a team, Panthers, Colts, whoever, were to sign Vick for the league minimum, and he turned out to be a damn good player then wouldn't he become valuable trade bait for the Panthers, Colts, whoever, to pawn off to another team in exchange for a couple of 1st or 2nd round draft picks?
If so, then the league minimum that you just paid this idiot sounds like a deal when you pass him off for more value.

Bottom line is that some GM is gonna have the balls to step up and take a chance........who would you rather have at low budget, Vick or Vinny?

No he was playing with the patriots the season before, and he had more, how do you say? ability to read a fucking defense.

Answer: Depends on how long a deal he is willing to accept, if just ups for one year then the panthers would have to franchise him for around 15 million while potentially losing that passionless bastard peppers. And Vick is gettin up there in age, why trade for a 30 year old QB whose style does open him up to injury when Snead, Bradford, and depending on who you ask Tebow are available to draft without all the ex con stigma.

...replying to #1, Vinny was old period. Could he read a defense, maybe, but he damn sure couldn't get away from the defenders if his life depended on it.

Now for # 2. Help me out a little bit here, are you saying that after 1 year Vick can "ask" for 15 millionish?

I hope you're not that , uhhh uninformed.
Or are you saying that "if" Vick rocks, he can actually command franchise money?

Look, this is easy, a GM will CONTROL Vicks agent to the point that the odds will be in favor of ANY team signing him.

Last I looked, no team was "publicly" making a move, but you can bet your bottom dollar the wheels are turning and turning fast.

There's more to being a QB than mobility, which is why Vinny was still able to play and it doesn't change the fact that the statement you provided was erroneous, he was playing for the pats the year before.

No, I'm not saying he can ask for 15 million, but if he signs for one year and is good and the team wants trade him (as you stated they might) they would have to franchise tag him at the cost of around 15 million in salary since he would be a free agent after one year.

How can a GM lean on Vick's agent if there are other teams with wheels turning to get him, sounds to me like the agent would have some leverage in making sure Vick isn't screwed.

....1. Vinny is a mute point because you don't get my point, no offense.
    2. Are you saying that ANY player picked up off waivers or free agent list or bag boys at the local grocery store, or just got out of jail can sign for one year and then become a franchise player, as in $ stature?
Why would the team HAVE to franchise tag him? Thanks, Fishman

    Moot, not mute.

Yes they can. Because Vick has more than 3 years in the league he cannot be a restricted free agent in any way (besides the tags mentioned next), thus if he signed a one year deal the team couldn't hold onto his rights unless they tagged him as a franchise or transition player, and yes one year of good play can get a player to that level of pay or the franchise tag like a guy who hadn't started a game since high school taking over for Tom Brady and playing well.
