ESPN just listed the 7 teams that haven't publicly ruled Vick out. Panthers listed.

Michael Smith made his case for why the Panthers are his prediction.

    1. Jake is old. (and sucks)
    2. The city supports its team.
    3. The ownership is stable.

    Interesting...

If Vick signed with the Panthers and Iverson signed with the Bobcats, Uptown Caberet could recover some of the lost revenue from Sean May moving to Sacramento.

Bojangles, Pita Pit, and McDonalds are still SOL, however...

I could've sworn I've heard at least two public statements to the media that we weren't interested. Am I wrong about that?

The city supports its team, but history has also shown that Charlotte ain't Green Bay. It's not blind, unwavering support.

The ownership is stable, but can anyone seriously see Jerry Richardson signing off on Vick? Much less, can anyone see Fox being okay with it? IMHO, no freaking way does the posterboy for dogfighting become the new face of the franchise in Billy Graham Central. No way, no how.

For all the "Bring Vick to Carolina" people, why do you assume he would be an upgrade on what we have?

especially at this stage in the process, Vick would at best be considered a backup.

There's no doubt he's more talented than our backups, but he's more talented than Jake, too. There's no doubt he's been and will be more talented than most, it's just rarely made it to the field.

So, does the team think that putting a high profile, mildly effective, and exciting backup is the right way to support a QB that this team follows no matter what?

Does the team think Vick is the right player to stick back there and be the backup for a few years and has a future?

Would he be a team player?

I don't think those things would be true.

Now, after pre-emptively vomiting so I could get through this post:

    Vick's fit with this team?

He's a runner, and runners are somewhat low risk.
We've lived with guys with marginal technique for years.
He's a runner, which gives our running game ability.
He's got a good deep arm, and he would probably be one of the few QBs in the league that could just heave it up for Smith the way Delhomme does.

but he's inefficient, inconsistent, a terrible leader, and a terrible person.

    Pat Yaz says it all:
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Let's make sure there's no room whatsoever to misinterpret this. There is absolutely, positively no way Michael Vick is coming to the Carolina Panthers.

So let's not jump on this and spread it all over the world the way it's happened in other places recently.

That said, there was just a Vick sighting in Spartanburg. As I drove into the Wofford College campus this morning, I saw a guy in a Vick jersey (from his Atlanta days) walking on Church Street. I saw the same guy walking in almost the same spot Monday afternoon.

About the same time I saw the guy this morning, my phone rang. It was a friend of mine in Charlotte, who said his teenage son heard on the radio or television that the Panthers were going to bring in Vick. It's all because John Fox didn't flat out say there's no way the Panthers would ever consider Vick when given the chance Sunday.

Ah, that's how dangerous rumors get started. But this one doesn't even deserve to be a rumor.

Fox simply was being politically correct. He has no interest in Vick because he's happy with his quarterbacks and he doesn't like circus atmospheres. Neither does general manager Marty Hurney, who, by the way, doesn't have the salary-cap room it would take to sign Vick.
But it goes far deeper than that. The man who ultimately makes the calls in Carolina is owner Jerry Richardson. Know this about Richardson: The man still breaks out in an uncontrollable twitch any time Rae Carruth's name is mentioned.

Richardson was scarred to his core by the scandal that Carruth brought to this franchise nearly a decade ago. Since then, Richardson has gone out of his way to avoid players who have had off-field problems.

That guy walking on Church Street has a better chance of signing with the Panthers than the real Vick.

I don't know, wouldn't it be cool to go to Cleveland's dog pound and bring in the "dog killer" :smiley_resurrect_gr

Thing about this Vick story that worries me most, is that it isn't going away. Normally by now it would go away, but instead its building steam.

Tony Dungy's relationship with John Fox is another concern. I'm not saying it will, but daily I thing the shock factor is fading.

They're just looking for anything to fill time, Vick has been on the imminent signing watch with Washington, Baltimore, New England and Jacksonville at one point or another then the stories fizzle out when he doesn't sign.
