Go 1-15, will QB be up for grabs next year? I think Jake is on his way to some super stinky numbers. Weinke got yanked and blamed for 1-15, shouldn't jake? Don't give the injury excuses, either. We have more talent now than we did in 2002 so it's a wash.

Unlike Weinkie, Jake has had success in the NFL too. I think we might bring in a a better backup than Peete though.

Weinke hasn't been given a chance to have success in the league. I hate the Cowboys but I'd love to see Weinke get cut here, land there, and take them to a SB next year. It would be fun watching Fox and Henning explain that.

I would like to see Weinkie get a shot too but it is not fair to compare how a superbowl QB is treated when he goes 1-15 to how a rookie is treated.

I'm not intending this as a Jake bash in any way, it's more about the thought process here. Shouldn't much more be expected of a SB Qb than of a rook? Seems to me a rook should be able to get a little more of a pass for 1 win than a SB guy. If we're say, 1-10, I would for sure support CW getting some PT.

But I'm pretty sure will win another game or 5 somewhere along the line.

I think its obvious weinke has been getting a bad deal, even being 3rd on the depth chart is laughable. We need a better veteran than peete is. Let him go home and mooch off his wife's B celebrity status. He does nothing here.

Peete needs this job. He and Holly are expecting again.

Hope it doesn't happen, but suppose the team struggles and Jake struggles throughout the rest of the season and we have a bad record by the last few games - do you put Weinke out there with the starters (whoever they may be by then) just to see what he can or cannot do before we have to make drastic decisions for next year? Not just the last game or part of the last game, but a few in a row? If Jake remains a question mark, we KNOW Peete isn't our QB of the future, and technically Weinke isn't either, but if Weinke by some chance looked fairly good, do you keep Jake & Weinke that might effect whether we're looking for just a back up or someone young to groom for the future? I know we need a young guy eventually, but if Weinke impressed it might not be as urgent a need and we still have Rutherford in the wings.

I can see where a coach could look at Weinkie and say, he is not a guy that can get it done. You can not say that about Jake. Jake has proved it.

The thing that no one seems to understand on this board is that the QB is dependent on the rest of the team for his success. Some seem to think you can judge a QB solely on his win loss record but that just is not true. Given a good supporting cast a guy can look great but take it away and he struggles. It happened to Bline when he lost Jefers and the OL completely wilted. It is happening to Jake now that hte OL is less, the run game is gone and Smith is out. Both were/are good QBs who can get it done just not by themselves.

The way you tell that a QB sucks is if he has all the pieces and still can not make it happen. A guy like Kordell Stewart sticks out in my mind as a good example of a sucky QB. He had some great wideouts and a good run game but still could not get it done.

I'm not blaming our struggles on Jake at all. I'm sure had we not lost some key folks to both salary cap and injuries, we'd be in the race for a playoff spot. So I'm not asking about Weinke as a criticism of Jake, but just if you play Weinke toward the end of the season if our record is bad just to make a final decision about his future here or elsewhere?

Some say Fox has already expressed an interest in bringing someone in next year to "challenge" Jake - which make already be an answer about Weinke, but also suggests that Fox & Co also have at least quietly acknowledged that there's a chance Jake's struggles might not be entirely the fault of lost players and a struggling Oline. I am certainly hoping/believing that they ARE the fault of those things, but it seems that there is at least a bit of concern among those whose opinion counts.

So this is more of a "just suppose" type question. If we're pretty much done by late season, do we see what Weinke can do with & against starters to decide his future or lack of a future here? Peete sure isn't our future, and Jake isn't 24, so we know even if Jake settles as the season progresses or wins his job again next season, at some not too distant date we need a QB.
