UCLA destroyed people during the regular season too, though. There's no question that they were the best teams by far in that era, and while he certainly benefitted from getting great talents, I think Wooden's achievements still rank head and shoulders above anyone else's.

Oh I'm not trying to downplay UCLA's accomplishments. They played all comers back in the day as far as I can see. I was merely commenting on their free ride to the Final Four every year due to their region.

every year in March we always hear about this HUGE upset...but if I'm not mistaken, Villanova played them close twice during the regular season....so i just don't think the upset is as big as everyone makes it out to be.

Yeah you're right. I wasn't watching college ball at the time, but everything I've read or heard has told me that Nova wasn't intimidated by GT. By being in the same conference, they knew they could hang, and hang they did. 78% FG shooting is unbelievable really.

You always hear people (including Dick Vitale) talk about Dook being the Yankees of college basketball...

After yet another choke in the sweet 16, they remind me more of the Atlanta Braves......they're great in the regular season and ACC tourney, but when it comes to the big one...not so great.

Obviously the NCAA tournament is the most important thing, but winning that many ACC tournaments in a row is ridiculous.

It really is. 9 years being in the finals of the ACC tourney is nothing to sneeze at. Too bad those nets mean jack shit. Still an impressive run I guess..

2006: Sweet 16 - Lost to FF member LSU

The streak continues. Congrats LSU, got some monsters down low. They have the size to throw UConn around, we'll see how the PG does against Williams though should they get there.

I think he means by how many people hate them, and Duke has 3 titles since the Braves' run of titles. Braves only have one. Some of Duke's teams (like last year's) overachieve and get a one seed when they don't necessarily have the talent, but I think a lot of that is due to Coach K and how well he's done. He's also compared Duke to Notre Dame in football, but I guess it's been about 10 years since Notre Dame SERIOUSLY challenged for a national title. Duke's won a title since the Yankees last won the World Series. Can't believe it's been 6 years with that freakin payroll but that's another story. Time to go party :woot:
