    yes

Boston Fucking College. Danya Fucking Abrams tried to take off Derrick Phelps head that game. UNC still should have won though. That was the case of a team that had TOO much talent and not enough chemistry.

Yeah, you had the old class who had won the NC a year earlier than anticipated, blended with the new Stackhouse/Wallace. Sheed damn near made that three though, just watched the game a few days ago on Classic (or the end).

I really thought it was BU. I remember the coach at the end of the game saying that people need to admit his team was a better and more talented team than Stackhouse, Wallace et al. I laughed my ass off.

It was BC, who was that fucker they had that played in the NBA..can't find him on google. Pretty sure they had a center on that team that played in the NBA for a few years however.

As soon as I saw you post it popped into my head. Bill Curly if I remember correctly?

edit--it's fun to look back at so-called NCAA upsets

93' Cal over 93' Duke = Jason Kidd and Lamond Murray VS Bobby Hurley and Grant Hill

96' Providence over 96 Duke = God Shammgod and Austin Croshere VS Steve Wojochoski and Trajan Langdon

It really does boil down to who has the best collection of two or three guys, even when it seems like an upset at the time, rarely is it. 83 State is an exception for this very reason, even though they had solid NBA talent in Thurl Bailey. Hell, 85 Nova had Ed Pinkney, while not up to Ewing standards by any stretch, still a decent player.

edit---Even with the 'superstar Curly', that game was a huge upset. Montross, Wallace, Stackhouse vs Curly and some decent college guards. There are still upsets in a one and done, but they aren't always as obvious as they seem at the time.

    Welcome, NC
Hell Wooden couldn't win 10 championships in today's tournaments. Back then there were only what, 16 or 32 teams to start, and plus all you had was a bunch of guys shooting layups, hardly any dunks or jams, virtually no shot blockers, and hardly anybody leaving to go pro after a year or 2. Nothing against Wooden, but NOBODY could win 10 National Championships these days. If Coach K gets 2 more before he retires he'll be lucky, there's just too much parity, turnover, and too many freaking teams.

9 straight 16's is good but doesn't approach Wooden, BUT, I think 10 final fours does. :twocents: :twocents:

One thing not mentioned about Wooden's road that SHOULD be mentioned:

Back then the regions were pure, your team went into it's respective region. This meant that UCLA rarely faced a worthy opponent until the Finals, as the West Coast was much weaker then than it is now. So while legit ACC teams were being left home for not winning their conference tourney, UCLA was beating up on SWAC teams to even get to the championship game. It was a completely different era.
