Whoever has the best balance of cap space and brains. Oh, and a need for a short-term QB.

I ain't gonna even think it.

    Dang, too late.

    I don't think they'll cut him.

Bulger might well get lost in Free Agency, but if Warner is cut, he's got MAJOR injury problems. You don't cut a 2 time MVP b/c of a sore thumb and 5 bad games.

But to think about it - Anybody know what Kurt Warner's signing bonus was? EDIT FOUND IT.

$46.5 million with an $11.5 signing bonus. So he got the bonus in 2000, and I think he might have restructured about 15 million of salary over the past two season into signing bonus.

Basically - I think the Rams are married to Kurt Warner the way we were (WERE) to Sean Gilbert.

And also - rumor has it that Rams brass is heavily scouting Carson Palmer.

    bulger looks pretty nice.

the panthers have so many needs, that they can't possibly be addressed in the next draft. free agency has to come into play for a couple of starters.

i hate that foster is hurt -- that screws up next season's draft. he won't be healed before the draft, so you have to do your board up without him, i think.

    QB
    RB
    WR
    CB

in no particular order, but that's a tall order to get four starters through the draft.

Well, first off, Foster's injury isn't like an ACL. If it heals, it will heal before the start of next season.

In other words, he's either done from this injury, or he will be back. Or something else will get hurt.

Either way, I don't see us spending a high pick on a running back. Now with this class. Healthy Foster or no, I think it would be more prudent to look in free agency for Stacey Mack type back. You got to wonder about a guy like Staley maybe. Bygones.

As far as the Rams are concerned, A. I don't think you can have that short of a memory, and my read on Martz is that he would stick with Warner. B. If Meat's right, and I think he is, they are stuck with him.

So Bulger would be the trade bait. But if Martz is smart, he'd hang on to both and give Bulger first round tender. A little over a million ain't bad for a young backup.

Not to be snotty, but can someone please explain to my exactly why CB is still high on so many draft lists? We've already got Cousin, Howard (who will be better next year), and Wesley (who will also be better). We will likely sign Terry Fair again, even for another 1 year deal. He's coming off a long injury break, so I don't see his open market value being that high. That's four solid corners, and you still have Brad Franklin on the PS.

Rashard Anderson is a wild card. If he's got his life straightened out, fine. But if he does come back, I'm wondering if he won't be a dime back or even backup strong safety. Prolly ST fodder, if he stays at all.

On the other side of the coin, we need new starters badly at WR and TE (the popular opinion is Walls is gone) at the minimum. Within 2 years, we'll need a new starter at QB, and I think Weinke's gone after this season. I think last year killed his intangibles. If Foster is done, we'll need a new 2nd RB. Arguably we need a new starting RT, and definitely 2nd team depth at G and T.

That is not to say we can't upgrade our D in this draft. But I'm beginning to see the Panthers as a big ship. The defensive 'engine' is running well, but could use a couple of tweaks and TLC. Definitely needs some spare parts. The special teams 'engine' is running on about half power, but once a couple of key parts get 'rebuilt', it'll be running strong again. Our offensive engine is only running on one cylinder, and it's only running about 80%. The casing has cracks, the linkage is shot, and it ain't putting much power out at all. In fact, it's running so bad, the throttle man can't push it past about 1/4 throttle. We might have a supercharger on the way, but it might be defective.

I read somewhere that a team is doing well to get three starters out of a draft. The way I see it, we need those three a heck of a lot more on offense than defense.

I agree. A QB, 2 WR, and an RB, if we're going for just 4. Or a TE and WR instead of 2 WR's. We've gotta start putting up some points so people can't keep coming back in the 4th. Hell, I wouldn't mind just picking up an RB like Piper said, and get a QB, 2 WR's, and a TE with draft picks.

Piper - Foster will be healed (or not) by next season, but NOT by the draft. I think that's what Larry meant. I agree with your take on getting another back, however.

Has-beens - Anderson and Fair are wild cards, and they won't be known about until after the draft as well. I think the uncertainty puts them high on the draft list.

With all the rotation at O-line, makes you wonder what we may do there. From what I've read, it's a bad draft for O-linemen.

Since when is 4th round a high draft pick?

I'd go QB, OL, WR, BA, BA, BA, BA

We need depth everywhere, if everybody heals okay, we just need the best available athletes. If there's holes to fill after the draft, then do it with FA's.
