I would say this confirms the 49ers are out of Conference USA

    Statement from C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky
    October 24, 2003

    Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky has issued the following statement regarding Marshall University:

    “In anticipation of pending conference realignment, I’m pleased that Conference USA has reached an understanding regarding Marshall’s future involvement as a member of C-USA. Marshall has done an excellent job of building a quality athletic program and we view the Thundering Herd as a real asset to the conference. The commitment from their administration and the entire Huntington community makes Marshall truly one of the rising stars in college athletics.

    “With the commitments from Marshall, Rice, SMU, and Tulsa, we have made substantial progress toward the completion of our future membership plans. We hope to fully complete this work in the weeks ahead.”

    Apparently, it's all being worked amongst the conferences...behind the scenes. They agreed to exit terms at the C-USA meeting a few weeks ago. I guess the A-10 leaders aren't talking (publicly) until the vote on Charlotte and SLU is complete.

    But if they want to kick us out and give us our 2.5 million in NCAA appearance money, I'll take that too. :cool:

    Wish we could take the money, put it towards starting a football team, then in 5 years turn around and kick every Conference USA football playing school's ass!!!!!!!
