I'm of the opinion that old computers should have old software. You want XP, upgrade the computer

XP will run many things without new software or drivers.

I ran the compatibility test, where it scans whats on your pc and tells you what won`t, might not, might, and will let XP run.
I`m thinking more on the line of Y2b.

The best way to do it is add a hard drive, and format and install XP on the new drive. Then your old drive would remain untouched, and you can just change the jumpers and make it a slave.

Then you'll have a brand new computer, and still have access to all your old stuff.

Well........I think I`ll build my first computer.
Got a bud in the biz who will assist.
Gonna treat it like sex, with a piece here and a piece there.
    Newegg here I come.
Starting with a case..........going for quiet on the end result.
    Kicking but calm.

HUH? XP does DOS better than DOS (and FAR better than Win2k), it just doesn't support direct hardware access, common in DOS and 16-bit windows apps.

Could I get some of you people who built your own box to list what you have in them?
Let me know if you`re a gamer or just a curious surfer.
Maybe you built yours just for speed and bragging rights.
Let me hear what you got(mobo, chipset, sound, video, harddrive, case, coolers, fans, rounded cable).
Anything and everthing you might want to share.
I want to go for quiet speed, but at around $600. :notworthy

Personally I went for the best I could get for the least amount of money. I bought a barebones box from a computer store on ebay ( case, asus mb,2.53P4, 512ddr ram) Then I added a 60gb hd from Circiut City on special, and a PNY gf4 4200 64mb w/memory heatsinks from ebay. I stripped my old system ( cd burner, floppy, monitor, keyboard, mouse) and picked up a couple of case fans from Best Buy and wala. This was almost 18 months ago. I'm not a wild gamer and it does and plays everything I want it to.
