that's pretty much true. He goes to games, I guess, but the only thing he specifically scouts (I've heard) is RBs.

But it's not as if there's a GM out there who does everything with the draft, or anything like that. he's certainly not the most talented, just the high profile.

Mike Mayock is far less annoying in his speech and delivery, but he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to analysis. He's one of those guys who says that Cutler is the best QB in the draft, among other things. Then again, I guess Gosselin made everyone else look good.

Like I said, Mayock is the best on network/cable television.

I am sure for the hardcorers like yourself, the best info/analysis is found through more obscure outlets.

I like Mayock, but you gotta be able to figure out when he exagerates. He does tend to overinflate guys here and there and underinflate others. Overall, I think he is more consistent than Kiper. Kiper gets in that flavor of the week mode and I can't stand listening to him.
Up to the week of the draft, I don't listen to Kiper much, but the week of the draft he usually has all his ducks in a row. Mayock always has good info on guys, but will sometimes over extend.

The only time any self-appointed draft expert it worth a shit (to me) is the actual day of the draft. Otherwise, it's all speculation, most of which turns out to be erroneous.

Mocks are relatively useless, but the whole point of the pre-draft hubbub is to become familiar with the players. That's what the experts are good for, although as McFly says, you have to seperate the information from the garbage. To me, I don't really care how many picks a guy guesses right, I just want to hear opinions about what kind of player the guy will be, and how he might fit into various schemes.

And in all honesty, Kiper has become a lot better simply due to the addition of numerous supposed experts who are absolutely horrible at evaluating players. I agree that he does too much "flavor of the week," but in fairness, the guy's track record on the players themselves (if not where they go) is pretty impressive. There's no doubt in my mind that he's better at that than Mayock.

I really don't think so. He probably doesn't touch on all the points that he should, or the other way around, but he seems fair enough in his analysis. Kiper has made a living off of a persona - I think most people here could do his job as effectively, at least.
