no matte rhis age, the man missed a year in the laegu fighting friggin Hodkins. He beat that, returned to the field, and made the stinking Pro Bowl. If that's not enough for a man to get a enw deal, I don't know what is.

Yup, he sure did beat Hodgkin's Disease then returned to put up numbers roughly half of his production before he had it. His history and the sentiments of others got him into the pro-bowl more than his on field performance. I certainly hope that he is not expecting to cash in on it. I didn't think he would based on the earlier "$2.00" statement , but things appear to have changed. Don't get me wrong. I like Mark and hope he stays, but I felt the same about Moose and I'm glad that money isn't hitting our cap.

No doubt Fields deserves a new deal and I will be very pissed off if we don't get one done. Fields is to important to the team in ways that go beyond production.

However, I do have to say that in terms of production, he was the 3rd bes linebacker for the Panthers last season. Morgan leading the team with 102 tackles while playing only 12 games and also making the Pro Bowl shows just how great this kid can be.....IF....he can ever stay healthy. Witherspoon was, imho, our best Linebacker last year, and was more deserving of a Pro Bowl slot than was Fields.

I thought Spoon deserved it more than either Morgan or Fields. I would rather see us lock up Spoon than to give a big contract to Fields.

Fields has a great story and he is a team leader. His recovery is inspiring and uplifting but we do not pay players based on stuff like that, we pay based on what they can do on the field. Fields was not special on the field last year. I hope he comes back and does it for a reasonable contract. If he is trying to cash in then I would let him do it somewhere else.
