If your fingers are too fat, play the bass. That's what John Entwhistle of The Who did.

And you ought to try the guitar. I'll bet they aren't too fat. Didn't hurt Jerry Garcia any. Or me.

    or me.
Drums aren't hard, they just take some amount of rhythm and, well, drums. You don't need to know much of anything of musical theory for what you'd be doing.

You're baitin' me, ain't cha Mag?

Alrite, I'll bite; what a load of horseshit advice.:D

Drums is like any other instrument. It depends on what you want to do/how serious you want to get into your hobby, as to what and how much knowledge you need; whether you want to be a mere time keeper, or a percussionist. I've known drummers that are excellent arrangers/composers. Most know and/or play the keyboard, excel on the mallet instruments such as vibraphone, marimba, etc.

Yeah. I know that. The last two drummers I played with had masters', and the after that (making him "last" I guess) is going to go to Berkeley.

But since Larry wants to dick around, and not become ?uestlove, I don't expect he'll need to know theory. Even to be good enough to play Top 40 you don't have to get into it much at all. Where guitar you pretty much get into it ASAP (or I did, and would).

Don't know quite how to respond to that, Mag, without pissing people off.
BTW what do you mean by "(making him "last" I guess)"? don't quite get your drift.
Anyhow, your advice totally circumvents any kind of educated approach to music, which I cannot condone; no matter what the "popular" general consensus may be.
I usually keep my mouth shut with music discussions on this board; but you "baited" me.
Understand that my response is from experience and education, and not from passion; at least not totally. I'm a firm believer in knowing the rules, before you break'em, so to speak.
