Actually, even though I hate the act of running, what I really need is to avoid the impact on my back and knees. My cardio is pretty good already, and I know about getting over the hump and all that. I just need lower impact on the days I'm not doing Jiu Jitsu. I swim at the pool a lot, but more for fun than exercise, and it's hard to schedule it, so I'm looking at rollerblading or biking as a substitute. I hate doing stationary things like elliptical or recumbent bikes, so anything where I'm actually covering ground is preferable.

I understand...the back and knees.mine do ache at times. I still skateboard, so I chalk it up to that I guess...guess thats why I hate rollerblades too

forgive me if I sound dumb but do you stretch really good before you run? I know that doesnt really stop the knees/back from aching but it aleviates soreness.

also- the shoes I was running in made a HUGE DIFFERENCE in how my knees/back felt.

You are doing it wrong. Distance running should be more of a shuffle or glide. Just don't pick up your feet as high.

P.S. Does anyone else start singing A Flock of Seagulls songs when they see this thread?

OK, I can see that as a possibility. I think I'm still going to avoid it if I can find something else to replace it.
Not until now. Please make it stop.

Chipshot, instead of jogging which is hard on your knees. Why not power-walk, or is that just for women? I used to walk an hour and half 4 days a week. I lost 12 lbs in a few months.
