For you Tar Heels.....and video game enthusiasts.

Felton joins EA as cover athlete

ALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Former North Carolina point guard Raymond Felton will join Electronic Arts as the cover athlete and spokesman for the video game "NCAA March Madness 06," the company announced Wednesday.

The game is slated to hit stores in the fall.

Felton, 20, played three seasons at North Carolina and helped lead the Tar Heels to a 33-4 record in 2004-05 and the school's fourth NCAA championship.

"Joining the EA Sports team is a great way to cap off my college career," Felton said in a statement. "Growing up I played EA Sports games all the time and to now be the spokesman for 'NCAA March Madness 06' is incredible."

After a national championship win over Illinois, Felton and fellow Tar Heels Sean May, Rashad McCants and Marvin Williams declared themselves eligible for the NBA draft.

Felton, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 13 points and shot 44 percent on 3-pointers, up from 34 percent the previous two years.

"This year's game is all about forcing turnovers and pushing the ball up the floor to create fast-break offense," said ESPN's Dick Vitale, one of the voices of the video game, in a statement. "There was no player in college basketball last year who could get the ball up the court faster and use defense to create offense better than Raymond Felton. His leadership and basketball skills played a vital role in North Carolina cutting the nets down and winning the National Championship."

Last year, EA Sports tapped Emeka Okafor for the position. Okafor, then a member of the national champion Connecticut Huskies, now plays professionally for the Charlotte Bobcats.
