 No I don't think so? It was told me to me recently by someone who said basically: 'what if I told you that 600 years before Jesus there was another God that was worshipped by the Romans?'. Supposedly this Marathas was also born of a virgin, was a teacher that traveled with 12 disciples, performed miracles, was buried in a tomb and arose 3 days later.

    Have you ever heard that?

Most people are in the world today trying to make a living and doing everyday chores. Most do not have a lot of time to study God's Word in the scriptures. Most people therefore take a few hours out of the week to go to a church and have someone preach the Word to them. Problem is most of these pastors teach tradition of men...not God's Word.

If you get into God's Word on your own you will have more "discernment" of those that are not teaching truth. I have friends that are athiest, and those that are trying to make a living and raise their family. I must say I will not let an athiest in my home for a long period of time and will keep at the door without letting that spirit in my house.

Much of what has happened to the constitution and taking God out of our life in government, state and cities such as displaying the 10 commandments, etc. Christians today are being awakened by the health care bill and out to make a stand. Hindu's have been mentioned here. Let me say that Hindu's believe that cows are dieties and are sacred. Many take dung from those cows and spread the dung on walls inside their homes. The smell is strong for a while but the families get used to the smell and no longer smell the dung. This is like when socialism/communism creeps in...after a while you get used to it and you don't notice until its too late to do anything about having the government control every facet of our lives

Read Joseph Campbell's Hero with a Thousand Faces or his Occidental Mythology and you will see that the virgin birth mythology has been repeated many times throughout history, not to mention the ordinary plot point of traveling with your posse, performing miracles, and yes, even the resurrection. The Jesus story is based on a common historical pattern.

    I have a question.

Trying to phrase this properly without offending anyone so please don't be offended.

It seems to me that a lot of people who claim to be christians are not. Usually they get caught doing something and then they repent or say they are going to but they don't. I know we all sin or whatever and it says you shouldn't judge other people and all that and I agree. Nobody is perfect BUT it seems to me that these fake christians are really rapidly destroying christianity and discouraging people from becoming christians.

Why don't real christians expose these fake christians or at least separate themselves from them in some way?

Now HollyB...I went back to read your original question about fake christians and maybe I should ask first: Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

You accused me of being a hypocrite and in your statement you feel that others "shouldn't judge other people". Let me say that only God is our judge and you have no right to judge others whether they are black, brown, white, yellow, etc. In calling me a hypocrite is judging. So, if you want to attack people then I recommend you to to Rant & Rave.

So if I claim I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior like you have...then it's ok to ridicule other faiths and blacks and women and gays like you do in your posts, yes?

I think I said you were missing the hypocrite thing and accused you of being fake. My statement on judging wasn't about myself. It was asking if the christian teaching about judging is what prevents real christians from calling out the fake ones. If God is your only judge then you shouldn't worry yourself about what think.

The way to tell the "right" Christians from the "wrong" Christians would be with the Bible, IMO. But of course not too many people outside the Christian faith invest the time to learn about it, so it becomes a moot point.

My hope is that when people who don't believe, see people like Billy Graham, Bill Hybels, and others like them, the thought that springs to mind is, "I don't know if I believe all this Christian stuff, but THAT'S what a Christian should be like."

I've heard that the apostle Paul actually referred to that god as part of his evangelistic efforts in Rome.
