I had a dream

You know you are a draft nick when you dream about the draft. Remember, this is just something I dreamed, not my dream scenerio.

OK, here's my dream I had about my draft. Don't know how I feel about it.

Carr gets taken first. Buffalo does in fact want Harrington, and ends up sending us their 2003 #1 and thier 2002 #4 overall for our #2. They take Harrington. Idiots, I think. Yall need a tackle. Detroit, smiling, takes Peppers. We take Jammer. In the second round, we take Saleem Rasheed, and we take Will Overstreet in the third.

Thinking about it, if we made a deal like that and took Jammer, I'd still look at Weaver, Denney, Johnson, a DE that would likely be there. But I dreamed Rasheed and Overstreet, perhaps because I'm familar.

We would be getting 2 number 1 picks in 2003, possibly a second high pick. Overstreet would try to improve upon what Slade gave us, I think he would. High motor player, fast. Rasheed would fill out the weakside, I think he can be a playmaker there.

Can we afford that? As I have admitted, I am not a draft guru... that being said, for some reason, I have thought all along that trading our first pick for something like you mentioned above would be in our best interest.

Being a Tarheel fan and all, I still don't think Peppers is a #2 and I am afraid thats what we will take if we keep that pick...

Agree on Rasheed. And if we had to get by with a situational rusher (including Freeney, I guess) then we could. Getting a right end type is better than nothing, with two DEs being FA after the year.

To which? Can we afford to take some of our picks into future seasons? Not unless we get a #1 or a #2 out of the deal.

Can we afford not to take Peppers? I'm at a loss for an answer there. I think we can but only for the right deal. Jammer definately fits what we want at left corner.

Is Rasheed worth our No.2? I don't see him being around for our No3 but I don't feel he is worth our No2 but I also don't really know shit about drafting value either.

Depends. He's pretty much rated the #2-#4 linebacker in the draft, and there isn't much going ahead of him. Problem is, the next one down from him that's like him, Levar Fisher, is a drop off IMO.

Afford, as in having 2 high picks in 2003?

As of right now, we don't project to be as bad off as we've been cap wise I don't think. As expensive as they are, #1 draft picks don't eat the space that high price FA do.

Depending on how you see Rush guys like Freeney and Kalimba, only Harris is rated higher than Saleem by most of the services. A few even rate Saleem the highest, I think Tony does, or did.

As long as your dream included trading down for more picks whether this year or not, I'm cool with it. :)

It does kind of make sense. Expectations for Fox in his first year can really be to only improve on last year. Should be able to do that without a problem.
Adding picks next year won't sit well with people who don't really understand the rebuilding process. Many would argue that we are making a mistake, but it would be a move for the future of the organization. Not taking Peppers, for any reason, would send the HOMERS into frenzy... I am all for that!
