What the hell do you care, PP? When is the last time the Phillies even made the playoffs, 1980? Moreover, you don't have much room to talk considering how much money Philadelphia spent a couple of years ago when they signed Thome et al in an attempt to win the division. But sure, it fucking sucks that the Mets are now buying their way to a division title just like the Yankees have done all these years. I hope the Braves can hold them off, but it's hard to see how that's possible given all the players the Mets have added.

Oh, and a great big fuck you to Loria for selling off all of Florida's players.

Thome is the only big fish the Phillies signed away from another franchise in a long time. They traded for Wagner, and Millwood. The Mets over paid for DelGado IMO. If you know anything about the Mets and Phillies rivalry you know that no matter what No Phillie fan will ever like the Mets. I could care less when the last time the Phils made the post season (1993, thank you lost to some Canadian club) I agree on the fuck you to Loria. They are doing nothing but sell down the team so they can move the Marlins to Las Vegas and then the owners get a big check from someone in Vegas. Baseball hierarchy is a fucking joke

Both Wagner and Millwood (along with Eric Milton) were salary dumps, though. You also signed David Bell for a hell of a lot more money than he was worth.

why? didn't the marlins dismantle their team after 97 and than win another title a few years later? How can you blame a guy for wanting to cut expenses when their fan base is as pitiful as it is? (selling off players had nothing to do with low attendance, they just don't give a shit in south florida)

Call them what you like they were traded for rather than on the open market. Please don't include the Phillies in the same breath as Boston, NY or whomever. I don't begrudge them for spending the money as it doesn't break any rules. I would be bummed if it had been say Cleveland, but the Mets are the antichrist to me. I would pull for anyone other than the fucking Mets. That's why it was so easy to love Pedro and Glavine signing with the Mets. I already hated them so them going to the Mes and watching them finish in last place again, and again was pure poetry

to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!

Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they’re hollerin’ and cheerin’ and they’re jumpin’ in their seats,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are tru to the orange and blue,
so hurry up and come on down -
‘cause we’ve got ourselves a ball club,

Florida's attendance is bad, but not bad enough to necessitate slashing the payroll as drastically as they have. Quite honestly, this is nothing more than the movie "major league" (which happens to be on right now), because Loria wants to move the team to Las Vegas and is sabotaging any chances of them staying in Miami. He did much the same thing with the Expos in Montreal, so I don't know why MLB let him have another team.

Moreover, selling off your players at below market value further disrupts the competitive balance of the league. The Red Sox, Mets, and Twins all gained big advantages over their competition by gaining some of Florida's best players in exchange for expendable parts.

They lost 20 million last year. He has to either cut payroll or increase attendence. He's been working with FL to try to get a new stadium forever now. They don't want to give him any money, which is their right, but you can't force him to stay in a shitty situation and continue losing 20 mil a year.

Sometimes expendable parts are worth more than the major leaguers. And every team in baseball had the same opportunity to get those same players.

I'm not one who usually sides with the fire sellER, but in this case, the people of SoFL have been jerking Loria around enough. Plus, my Sox got Beckett, so fuck 'em
