    From the observer:

Walls has two more years on his contract, and he could end up as a salary-cap casualty. Walls is scheduled to have a $3.996 million cap figure in 2003 and to receive a $1 million roster bonus in March. The Panthers would take a $1.15 million cap hit if they release Walls, but that would free up $2.8 million in cap space.

    buh-bye Wesley.

So much for fan loyality to a player who's contributed over the years. Meat good thing he don't work for you for 20 bucks an hour. Social Security is a good thing. ;)

fan loyalty? He's barely walking, he's 37, he's got bad knees and we're supposed to put another $3 mil into him so he can limp around and catch another two touchdowns? I'm a huge Walls fan but damned if Walls is worth that even without the bonus. The fans can pout all they want, there's football to be played.

Cut him and then re-sign him to one of those cap friendly 750K/450K cap hit contracts. Let him finish as a Panther and have a shot at breaking the TE TD record (if Henning ever realizes the TE spot can be used for more than a blocker). He only needs 8 more I think.

I honestly think he will retire after this year. How would that affect the cap differently than if we cut him?

No doubt. Give him a job in the organization ala Sam Mills and move on. While your at it say good bye to John Kasey
