as someone said earlier, i feel some of it can be attributed to the braves running into hot pitchers and hot teams(cubs this year). for example, off the top of my head i can think of the dbacks and marlins who beat the braves in the playoffs in that span and went on to win the world series. its not like these teams they are losing to are jokes. they've also made it to the series several times in the past 12 years. yes, they've flopped in the first round a few times (again this year if they lose tomorrow). i don't see how losing in the world series is choking. if someone wants to look up the stats on that feel free. its not like they are going out there EVERY season and choking in 3 or 4 games in the first round.

if you take a poll of braves fans, me included, i think we'd find out that a high percentage of us don't see winning your division 12 years in a row and one world series title as a "problem". i think this label comes from the other fans around the league who are jealous of what they have accomplished. 12 divisional titles in a row, to me, is a greater accomplishment than a "flash in the pan world series title".

    just my opinions here.

since the Giants, who I thought was the best team this year, got punked in Florida, the Braves have a golden opportunity to win it all this year, but they must take care of business on Sunday.

It's amazing what happens when you play errorless ball. In the past, the pitching staff is good enough to get wins with 28-30 outs, but not this one. It's not bad, but it MUST not give extra outs to the Cubs or it's over.

I do like the fact that Chipper was batting 3rd and Andruw was dropped behind Lopez. When Sheff plays tomorrow, I would like to see this lineup.

    SS S Furcal
    2B R Giles
    LF S C Jones
    RF R Sheffield
    C R Lopez
    CF R A Jones
    1B R Franco
    3B R Castilla
    P L Hampton

I am aware that this lineup is right-handed heavy, but I like Juilo's bat and glove better in this situation, plus Chipper hit 2 dingers and may have to get used to batting 3rd again if the Braves lose and Sheff is not resigned.

Like I said i like the players the Braves have, I just think Cox shouldn't get the praise he gets. That and I have no respect for any man who strikes his wife.

why does everyone come with the wife thing when talking about how cox manages? i too, think it takes a small man to do such a thing. but what does that have to do with baseball? since i was called out for some real reasons, i ask the same.

Friday night, after the Braves loss to Mark Prior, I was listening to the Braves station out of Atlanta, AM750.

In the Extra-innings show, they had tons of fans calling up and complaining about how frustrated they are that the Braves haven't done better in the post season.

The announcer (I don't remember his name) was also talking about the same thing.

I realize that Friday night there was frustration because the Braves had lost. Still, the feeling from over 90% of the callers was overwhelmingly that the Braves have a "problem" of getting fired up in the post season.

The announcer compared them to the Buffalo Bills, getting to the Super Bowl and amazing 4 times IN A ROW but losing every single time.

This is not "my" opinion that I'm talking about, this is the opinion of all the fans who called up that show and of the Braves announcer.

but turbo, 90% of those fans that called in equate to about how many people really? how many callers did he take? seriously, thats no way to compare the views of braves fans. for example, why the hell, would someone who feels the same way i do, call into a show directly after a braves playoff loss and state our feelings. i'm not saying it doesn't suck when they lose, but i just don't see long-term success as a problem.

OK, that is a good point. Winning your division 12 years in a row isn't a problem. Getting to the World Series three or four times (I can't remember how many the Braves have reached) isn't a problem either.

I guess the idea is that, when you have that much success in the regular season, you'd expect more return for your work than just one World Series win. You'd think they would get 2, maybe 3 in those 12 years.

The Yankees have had more than that in less winning seasons.

You might think that it is not fair to compare the Yankees to the Braves, but in terms of winning percentage, the Braves are BETTER than the Yankees. Yet, they have won 3 less World Series rings than the Yankees.

I mean, the question you need to ask yourself is this: Is getting to the playoffs enough for you? If it is, then you have no problem with only 1 World Series win the last 12 years. If it isn't enough, then you have a problem.

Edit: Go look at Smashmouth's thread called "DAMN YOU BRAVES" and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

I can't seperate the other stuff personally. But I still contend he has gotten the least out of his talent. Mazzone desearves more credit IMO than Cox
