Hurney had a little early success with some decent FA signings like Jake and Stephen Davis. His drafts were horrid, terrible trades, threw away every 2nd round pick, failure at WR and on and on. Not to mention grossly overpaying to resign players.

He needed to go, period. These articles are written by people who didnt know anyone on this team outside of Cam a few weeks ago. If a good foundation is being cucked by the salaries of running backs when the best run threat on the team is Cam, no secondary, a huge contract for the Giants MLB and paying Charles Johnson like hes Reggie White in his prime, then I guess theyre right.

 

Otah was a good player, FWIW. Injuries was his downfall, as it was for Dan Morgan. "Sucking" (as some as you dumb asses allude to) sometimes isn't the fault of the player. Morgan played balls out, and he paid for it with concussions (sadly, he got penalized in life for playing balls to the wall).

Same for Beason. He was a great player for us. Sure wasn't his fault that he got injured playing balls to the wall. He gave us his best.

 

I'm not sure if there's a huge gap between Otah and Bell. The run blocking in '08 was pretty shitty too, but our backs could make ridiculous plays that they can't make now. I vividly remember Stewart and Williams getting hit in the backfield several times a game.


We've never really had a stalwart offensive line. The '03 group was pretty good but they were all cheating.

 

Dan Morgan was an above average NFL linebacker but not elite even when healthy. He was kind of Kuechly-lite. I also cannot agree about Otah being a good player. He was always stiff and slow in his movements, which I predicted he would be right from the moment he was drafted. Top-heavy OL generally don't work out well. It sounds gay, but scouts talk about wanting to see "a good bubble," which basically just means a big ass indicates developed lower body musculature. Otah reached a lot because he wasn't quick enough to position his body, and while he was a monster when he did get into defenders while run blocking, he struggled in space. Add in pretty poor pass blocking and he was below average even before all the injuries. Not Bell-level terrible, but not good either.
