    ...CAN FTFRO!

I had to spend 2 1/2 days of my vacation working on my computer after the operating system crashed for the 2nd time in 3 months. I was very, very close to taking a hammer to the tower and mailing it to HP with a detailed description of just how infuriating their sofware bundle is, when I found an old XP Pro disc left over from my last computer. I loaded that bad boy in the DVD drive and let it re-format my hard drive, blowing every last trace of Windows Media Center and HP crap the hell out of my system.

I had to re-install all my files and programs, but so far it's running as well (if not better) than it ever did. The only thing I lost in the conversion was the use of my tv tuner (which I rarely used), but I think I can download a different driver and make it work.

That is the first and last HP I will ever buy. Next time, I'm gettin' a Dell.

Try looking at several of the freeware programs for media computers - Meedios and MediaPortal are the two I've been experimenting around with the past couple of weeks. I've also got TotalMedia that came with some tv capture cards I got from Newegg. TotalMedia's decent. Meedios looks real nice, if I can ever get it to work. MediaPortal seems to hold the most promise for future development.
