So the question is bound to start surfacing with only one game thus far being out of reach after 55 min of football.

How long does Fox and this staff get before the talk shifts from how good he is, to replacing him?

Personally, I am pissed right now and am overlooking the positives and looking directly at the end result. My answer at the moment would be that if they don't start coming out on the winning end of these close games, it's on Fox. He's out!
HOWEVER, I also have to think he should get at least three years to get things in shape and refine his coaching.

I just don't have the patience for what I am seeing, other than Atlanta we've failed every lose in the last five minutes.

It all goes back to the 3-0 start and how it raised expectations. Mag said our offense was just smoke and mirrors and it wouldn't last. Besides, it's not like Fox inhereted a great deal of talent. Fox has done a great job still, IMO. He actually deserves an extention if we can draft a Palmer along with a difference maker at WR and get a new OC for next year.

The players on IR are huge losses when you look at the depth on the team. With what money is available to get FA's, he's made great choices.

    Fox stays.

with Henning's last article I have to wonder who's to blame for the offense being the way it is. Henning says it's Fox' "plan" to be this boring and stupid about our playcalling.

If you're looking for a timetable, two more years unless we hit it big with offensive talent. If it's truly Henning's fault, and he's replaced by someone more progressive, I give him his complete four years at minimum.

I am not calling for his head now, the question is...how long does he get?
This next draft will tell alot about Fox as will next seasons product.
The reactionary side of me says we have to start thinking about another option. The rational side tells me that there are enough positives too build on and that this franchise will be a serious threat to everyone in Fox's third campaign.

Right now we have about $62 mil tied up in this team. The cap's at $71 mil right now without any possible increases, without any real names to tie up - though I'd like to see us immediately put a midrange deal under Howard. That should buy us one guy of worth and two guys at Lamar Smith type rates. A few more guys like that could make anybody's decisions look better.

We should be one of the favorites to win it all by then.

I don't think there's any such thing as a guaranteed year anymore. There's simply too much money at stake to be that patient.

I feel it all comes down to improvement, which may or may not translate into wins. John Fox inherited a mediocre team with no depth to speak of. In 8 weeks, he lost 11 guys to IR. Once those guys come back, the team will be better. Heck, I forgot all about Terry Fair already.

My point is, there is room for improvement all around -- players, depth, staff and gameplanning. I think you have to look at the big picture. I mean, I still feel this team is a light year ahead of last year's team, althought the record doesn't reflect it. Think about it: if you eliminate the last 2 minutes of the games we've played, this team is 8-1. 8 AND 1!!! Even with our crappy, boring, predictable non-executing 3 stooges offense! That's saying something, to me, about how much Fox has been able to polish Seifert's turd.

Fox has got next year. If the team falls apart on him or doesn't improve from this year, he'll be on the hot seat by week 12 next year. If the team tanks completely, he'll be gone in 2004.

By the way, call it blasphemy, but I'm starting to wonder if we shouldn't be thinking about laying these 2 minute meltdowns at the feet of Jack Del Rio. He IS the defensive coordinator, and this many breakdowns in such a consistent manner is starting to indicate coaching more than a lack of execution IMHO.

I want Henning gone after this year. get someone who is in touch with the current game. Henning still thinks John Riggins is around

Not Seifert's offense. Peete, Smith weren't his pickups and Steveophone wasn't ever expected to be more than a 4th for him. Certainly he didn't stock the offense by any means but that was part of the reason we have a stocked D ...of which we really need some depth now.
