Dammit I have to agree with Thelt.

Wallace hasn't been what he was in the past. Henderson has stepped up his game as of late, and if Thomas comes back it could allow for a playoff push. I feel this is more of a half step back than a full. Still keeping them on the edge of the playoffs, but in both situations they weren't gonna advance beyond the 1st round. If that kinda thing kept up the product was gonna get stale. You need to purge some money in order to build for the future. This was an aging team with very little upside. Now there's potential for 3 first round picks, while it is a weak draft they could possibly turn those 3 into something special. Its got FAR more potential for the future than what they currently had.

If you look back at the last few drafts a few good players were taken late(r) in the first round.

    Danny Grainger went 17
    David Lee 30
    Rajon Rondo 21

Maybe we can get lucky and find a guy who can play. With three picks it certainly helps our chances.

I disagree with this being cheap. If this trade doesn't happen, best case scenario is that you spend the next two or three seasons fighting for missing the lottery and getting swept in the first round. Then when Wallace finally does go you've got to rebuild anyway, only now you don't have as much to do it with.

The problem with the Bobcats has always been that they were built to make the playoffs...not compete in them, just to make them. To build this team, they've painted themselves into a corner salary wise. So they could either spend the next couple of years trying to get an 8 seed, and then rebuild from scratch or they could try to take some of their assets and do something to get the inevitible process over with.

I hate that Gerald Wallace is gone, he was my favorite Bobcat. He's also my 8 year old son's favorite player, so he took it really hard. But he's arguably the only asset the team had to trade, and you've got to do what you've got to do.

I do not see it as bad as all that. Chandler did very little for us. I still think we should have kept Okafor but once that deal was done it made sense to dump Chandler and his injury problems. Felton was not dumped. He was a free agent who we did not retain. He got abused in the playoffs last year and DJ was ready to step up. He has been pretty good this year. Losing Wallace hurts but we did get something in return for him.

Face it a team built around Felton, Chandler and Wallace was never going to compete for anything more than the 8 seed and an early exit from the playoffs. There is not really a player on this roster that looks like a guy who can lead us to championship. Jackson is a good player but he is getting older. Maybe this will let us get a great player in the draft or via free agency.

You need at least one superstar to compete, really you need two or three. We have none so it makes sense to maximize our chances of finding some even if it does cost us a #8 seed and first rounds sweep.

Isn't he the same guy who last year called our collection of players depressing and advocated getting rid of everybody and starting over?

Is there anyone in this draft worth packaging some picks and moving up to get? Do they do that in the NBA like they do in the NFL where a high first round pick is sometimes traded for multiple lower first round picks or a lower first and some seconds?
