I go to a casual church and I love it. Last weekend, I wore a Hawaiian print shirt, denim cargo shorts and sandals, and was not out of place at all. I've only seen our senior pastor wear a tie once in the past 8 years, and that was on Christmas Eve.

But Miss tery brought up a point in another thread that's becoming an alarming issue for me. She said she was jogging by a church and saw women and girls dressed up like "hotties". I'm seeing this more in the youth areas than anywhere else, but I have seen women dress in things that I wish they would've thought twice about before they left the house.

My question is, what do you think is appropriate for a Christian to wear, and why?

at my church one of the deacons wore sandals with sox under his chassic the church ladies went nuts. we all know christ wore floreshimes.

It depends on the crowd. In miami I was a member of a very liberal parish, you had to wear clothes. Up here it seems all the churches are church lady heaven and it gets old after awhile. everyone has their idea of how to do it right and it can get nasty. I wish bishop sheehan was still on tv.

I'm all for casual, but shorts or anything like it is too casual for me. Business casual would be the limit for me. And we are not letting our children go to church looking like slobs, which is what the kids in our church look like when they wear shorts.

I think you should at least make an effort to look nice. I would never kick someone out of church because they are underdressed but I think you should remember you are going to worship the creator of the universe. Don't you think you should at least look nice rather than a slob? I can deal with kakis and a golf shirt but sorry hasbeens, I think a Hawaiian shirt and shorts is too causal for a main worship service. If you are at the beach and the hotel offers a service that may be different, but if you are going to your regular church, I think you should put in the effort to look nice, IMO.

If you are not comfortable with your daughter wearing it on a date then you should not let her wear it to church.

Fair enough, but let me ask you this, Ice Man. Are you saying I can't or shouldn't worship the Creator of the Universe at all unless I'm dressed properly?

I don't care how others want to dress at church, but personally, I wouldn't go before the President of the US in shorts and a tank top, so I sure wouldn't go before my king on his speical day of worship. Not to say your not worshipping Him daily, I just think Sunday worship should be special.

No, he didn't. Not verbatim, anyway. He said this:

That implies to me that I should look nice if I'm going to worship God, which in turn implies that God cares what I look like when I'm worshipping Him.

Nor would I. But I don't believe we're comparing apples to apples, either. There are social rules and etiquette surrounding the President of the United States.

What, other than being in a building with other people worshipping at the same time, makes Sunday worship any more special than daily worship?
