Someday Bob Jones University will be a national power and who'll be laughing then? Huh?

First of all, the notion that the NBA is "in trouble" in a business sense is retarded. Profits are up in the last two years, not down, for most teams and the league in general.

The Lakers, even in after a down year and all the Shaq/Kobe nonsense, are still the #1 Pro team in LA.

But their are problems, some of which are getting better, but linger.

    1. The Jordan syndrome. When Michael dominated the leage, a lot of teams tried to replicate the success with one dominant player, and maybe a secondary scorer. Then surround that player with protectors (goons). These stars like Iverson and Carter just weren't anywhere near MJ's level, and the lack of balance on the teams made the games unwatchable. As Michael retired and the other marketable players from the 80s and early 90s started to retire, the NBA got worse and worse. Basically, what Gutter complianed about was true for most teams.

Now, with the new offensive rules and the success of team play, as well as the new crop of unselfish but talented and marketable stars like Nash, Melo, Wade, and King James, the play has gotten a lot better.

    2. Most of the good teams are in small markets, mostly out west. Most of the big market, old school NBA teams suck. Philly, NY, and Boston suck out loud. I don't know how you solve this, unless David Stern decides to take out Danny Ainge and Isiah Thomas. The teams are just mismanaged despite a healthy payroll.

That's really it. IMO, the NBA is on it's way out of the darkness with the younger players and team play. Don't judge the NBA based on the Bobcats, Spurs tickets are tough to come by. Suns tickets are tough to come by. Even Clipper tickets are getting tough to get.

i think the nba is fine, but then, i don't like college basketball. if you want that type of game, you got plenty of it.

the nba is certainly player dominated and i think that's because it's been determined that's what the fans like. people don't buy lakers jersey's, they buy kobe jerseys.

So...you'd guys would PREFER to see thugged out rapists play a sport as INDIVIDUALS than to see good people play as a team?

Don't get it. I'd be much more likely to support a team of people than I would a team of subhumans...I'm not paying to go to the zoo or the local prison when I buy a ticket to the Bobcats...I'm paying to see PEOPLE play a sport.

i have no major complaints about the nba, cept maybe some of the uneven reffing at times (stars vs non-stars and playoffs vs regular season).

you sound like a guy walking into a chinese restaurant and demanding they serve you the enchilada combo. if you don't like the nba, don't watch it. there's way too much money involved for the folks who run it to not understand what best serves their purposes and i'm guessing making you happy is probably not priority number one.

I for one love his suggestions. It would certainly clean up the professional ranks and then maybe, just maybe, turn sports back into the Shangri-La that we all think used to exist, but didn't really.

sorta like how people want to put asterisks next to the records being set under a cloud of suspicion. what people assume is that nobody has cheated before.
