I enjoyed Cabin Fever for one viewing, but I don't think I'll be buying the DVD.

Your thrillers listed are all keepers, especially Seven. The writer of Seven also wrote 8mm, which I thought was outstanding. Normally I prefer an element of the supernatural in a scare flick, but when atmosphere and mood are pulled off right, it more than makes up for an absence of the occult.

And you're right; the truth of the real world is often ten times crazier than anything you could possibly make up.

Hope to see Dawn of the Dead Sunday.

On another note, Cucalorus Film Festival has a horror category that supposed to be really good. I'll be checking that out next week. Come on down and see some fine independent filmwork from Wilmywood.

well that's fine. I don't think horror movies can really "scare" anymore. The few good ones around now are either cerebral or fun. Rob Zombie did do a great job, his movie is like nothing around right now. Shit like cabin fever shouldn't even be made.

I'll bet they scare people who don't have a history of watching horror movies.

Ok, my review, without giving away any details.

Cinematography was excellent. There was that typical sarcasm in a scary movie as far as dialogue goes, but the images told the story. No holds barred when it came to women and children. Nothing sacred.

Ving RHames can't act, but he will be BA if they ever make an A-Team. You'll see what I mean if you go see it.

A lot of action, but nothing to unbelieveable, even for a zombie movie.

Lot of people getting fucked up, bad.

And a chainsaw scene that was better than the entire remake of TCSM.

    GO SEE IT!!!!!

    NICE!!

What does suck about being here is, my big-screen movie watching will be severely limited to what comes to the base theater... almost always long after a movie first comes out. That, and just waiting for the DVD release of other movies.

Today I finished my second reading of Stephen King's "The Stand" since 1991. It's something I felt I needed to finish before jumping back into the writing of my own novel. I was stuck on a certain scene for what seemed like an age, then suddenly the answer hit me out of the blue, just as easily as flipping a switch.

:) King's an old favorite, as he is with millions, but he didn't help me this time around. I just had my spiral notebook laying on the bed in front of me, with my head hung down trying to think away around my storytelling obstacle. And boom. There it was.

i was just thinking about how "scanners" was a decent movie, if a bit poorly executed. i suppose it's not really "horror" per se -- more like gory scifi. cronenberg did another cheesy flick called "the brood" which has the same feel as scanners, tho is certainly more horror oriented. he's an interesting guy in the horror genre -- not affraid to go places that others might shy away from.
