There are 2,400 varieties of tomatoes, ranging from new hybrids to heirlooms, or old varieties that are still grown because of their unusual color or extra-large size. Tomatoes can be red, orange, yellow, green, purple or even purplish-black. :twocents:

    No.

You forgot to start the BLT sammich thread.

and you are welcome to start your own mater biscuit thread. Nothing wrong with a good biscuit and not many know how to make really good ones anymore.

and there is nothing wrong with a California tomato. Except those that are picked green and spend three weeks ripening in a truck or warehouse. Those are the ones we get around here

I thought I'd try "organic" gardening just to see what they turned out liek this year... I'm no dumbass though. I planted one bed regular and the other organic. Some interesting varieties from the org. one is a "Purple Prudence" I think? It was right tasty and grew to a good size. BUT, the beefsteaks and betterboys over on the regular side???? Well, they fill up a whole sammy with Just one slice! My vote as the best tomaties anywhere... God surely loves me :)

Imma go eat one now for a bedtime snack :woohoo:

PS- I already went through one regular sized jar of Dooks in a little less than a month and a half... I think I'm plumpin up for the cold winter months :)

What really chaps my ass about this thread is that y'all think amter sammiches are only a southern thing. :wtf23: I been eating mater sammiches since I was a kid, but never crossed the Mason Dixon until I was like 19. The only difference between the mater sammiches I was eating up north vs, the ones I eat down here, is that I now use Duke's Mayo. Until now it's always been Hellman's.

I'm so happy the tomatoes and all things seem to be working out for you. ;)

I got some of that basil that you can stick in a jar and grow right in your kitchen.... I chopped that up on the mater sammich and it was really good. However, it did make me feel a little like I was putting spinners on a Gremlin.

Something just seems "wrong" about a purple tomato. Although I've eaten the orange and yellow ones. Are the purple high or low in acid?

Yeah, i know. I was just playing along since he mentioned Dukes.

We had Mater sammiches in Ireland too you know.

But Biscuits and Dukes are southern products. Never heard of them till i came here. What we call biscuits are cookies. So the first time my buddies picked up some sausage biscuits with Grape jelly from Micky D's kinda had me tripping. It was kinda nasty the first time, kinda like that sweet tea.
