Finally, I got a sub! "Open box" at Circut City, Polk Audio 10", 200 Watts
Regular $329, Sale price $299, walked out with it for $229, oh yea!

Onkyo Pro Logic Amp (Pre- Dolby Digital era)
    Bose 301 Fronts
    Bose 201 Rear
    Bose Center Speaker
    Polk Audio Sub
    50" Hitachi

I finally got those bookshelf speakers off the floor too. It's like a brand new system. I haven't played any PS2 games with it yet, but I'm sure it's cool. I got rid of those big black carpet covered boxes a longtime ago and picked up these 301's. They are without a doubt the best speaker you can buy for the money.

I use to hate C. City... the way they gang banged you when you got passed the first secuity checkpoint...

What I learned over time is that no price, sale or not, is the real price - these guys are flexible and can adjust. The last year or two I have even gotten a dicount off their sale price!

  3. We should make this a sticky for everyone to post their system's specs.

    I've got a sony 60 inch HDTV
    Satellite - DirectTv
Sony Dolby Digital Receiver -400 watts
    Cerwin Vega center channel
    Polk Front and Rear speakers
    Sony Subwoofer.

The best part is, if I move a reclyner over a few feet, I can see the TV from the hottub on y deck. I watched most of the NHL playoffs from out there.

    RCA 27" TV
    Sony 945 500 W receiver
Sony 860 300 disc DVD Changer
    Sony MiniDisc Recorder
    Sony VCR
RCA DVD player (for vcd's and MP#'s mostly)
Sony towers and CC up front, bookshelves in the back and a JVC Sub.

Good thing is I've got less that about $600 in it.

I am in the market for a system now. I will have 6 surround speaker in the corners of the room. Any comments of importance that I should watch out for? Someone told me to make sure I get enough wattage to handle all 6 speakers or I could blow the receiver. Is this true? Also I need a CD changer (6+ changer) and want to be able to program each CD and then RANDOM them. Any suggestions??
    Thanks!

6 speakers don't go in the corners... In a 6.1 system they are front center, front right and left, then directly to your right and left and a rear center. To work them you'll have to get a 6.1 receiver, which will definatly have enough power. If your amp doesn't have enough power, it won't hurt anything, it'll just sound like crap. if your speakers can't handle as much power as the amp outputs, you're toast.

As far as the cd changer goes, I'd recommend one of the handy dandy mega-changers (100-400 discs) you can random and program till your heart's content for under $300.

  7. A lot depends on your receiver and what you are listening to. If movies is your goal then six speakers is more than adequate but would you be hooking more than one up to one slot in the receiver? Is your receiver dolby digital compatable? For movies, you need a good center channel speaker, this is where most of the sound will come from if you are using doby digital. the subwoofer adds a lot. Your side speakers need to be able to handle a high range of sound and it doesn't hurt to have good bass capability in them either. A lot depends on your room's acoustics as to where to put them. I didn't really worry about music when i set mine up because I only really listen to music while driving. My receiver has several different setting for music and for movies.....

I went to Tweeter (or whatever it was before) and they helped with the speaker placement. the only speakers I bought there were my four satellites....but those guys know their stuff and will help you even if you buy some of the compenents elsewhere. I got the center channel at best buy and the receiver from amazon.com.

With that kind of equipment, obviously Paul does, but does anyone else have a dedicated HT room, or do you just have your ht set up in your den/livivng room?
