It may not be what you are experiencing, but with the right choices it could eventually be, Lord willing. Every man is born with a God shaped vaccuum that will never be filled by ANY other false god (allah, taoism, wicken, buddah, etc.), the yearning for that void to be filled is the cause for your searching. I'm sure there are a multitude of american indians and many others from different beliefs that occupy a place in Heaven. Every one has God's law written on their heart and instictively know "right from wrong". If they never had the gospel of Jesus Christ presented to them yet they lived their lives choosing good instead of evil in their dealings with others, then they would have eternal life. But for you and me, living our lives in a Christian nation, it would be hard on judgement day to make that claim. Having been exposed countless times to the gospel and rejecting it will result in an eternity of separation from God.
Not trying to "preach" at ya or cram anything down your throat, but it is what I strongly believe and it would be wrong to not share it with you. If I were standing on the bank of a river knowing there was 100ft waterfall ahead, and you were happily floating by, how wrong would it be for me to not tell you and throw you a life preserver? It's my prayer that you live long enough to exhaust all the other avenues out there and realize that Christ is the only way to real peace, joy, and contentment......and eternal life with your Creator. We are all eternal creatures, it's just a matter of where we will spend eternity. And even if you forever reject what I say, maybe just 1 person who stumbles onto this thread will have their life turned around, God's word never returns void...........

I believe that everything on earth has a "spirit," & that we're all connected; & that extends beyond the planet too, though I have a hard time imagining how far. And what I'm talking about is something that is innate, not acquired; but it can grow, expand, learn, become more aware. So in that sense, I wouldn't equate it with a Christian concept of a Holy Spirit. But I DO consider it sacred. I think it helps us connect with others, with the earth, & with God/Source.

I would agree. What Christians refer to as Holy Spirit is something we don't have access to without meeting the conditions--namely, repentance & baptism (with a few exceptions as noted by others above). I think what you & I are talking about is something that's already an inherent part of everyone & everything, but that we grow more aware of & respond to when we're open & seeking.

Attempt #4 to answer this thread (I've had computer issues :sadbanana: )...

Disclaimer -- A discussion about the Holy Spirit is a discussion of the supernatural. There is little in the way of evidence to either prove or disprove a belief or theory besides personal experiences, the integrity of those testimonies, and logic.

Muff, from what you've posted in this thread so far, it sounds like you've gained an awareness of your own soul, and the varying degrees of the supernatural in the world around you. But what you're sensing isn't really the Holy Spirit, as described in the Bible.

Per your request, I'll set aside the identity of the Spirit (Trinity doctrine) and focus on His role regarding interaction with humanity.

The Bible calls the Holy Spirit a "Counselor" (John 14, 15, and 16), and I believe that is His primary role. To put it another way, He is the way God speaks to believers -- to console, to comfort, to encourage, and to advise. But the Bible also teaches that connecting with the Spirit is only offered to those who have placed their faith in Jesus. That is not to say that God can't or won't hear the prayers of those who haven't made that decision yet. The way I understand it is that until one does make that decision, and that connection is established, prayer is a one-way conversation.

I also think that what Ecilam said was noteworthy (regarding the human conscience). I would guess that at least part of what you're experiencing is a heightened sense of your conscience, that yes -- often does conflict with our ego, pride, and various appetites.

Does that make any sense? And more to the point, is that more or less what you were looking for? If not, I'll be happy to take another shot at it.
