If you were a GM your team would wear pastel colors and get blown out every game. Fights happen in sports..people act like this is the first time its happened in any sport...When NBA players do something everyone is so concerned..When that NHL player about killed that guy smashing his head on the ice I wonder what you said...O thats just part of the game....Its real interesting the reaction s of some to violence by NBA players as opposed to other sports like the NHL....WONDER WHATS THE DIFFERENCE???

I'm trip'n over how they just let the players throw blows in hockey. With the ref standing right there. Real fist fighting. And the crowd loves it.

I'm not a fan of the NBA. But what we're saying is....the fans can do whatever to the players, and the players are supposed to just count to 10?? How about Stern punishing the Detriot front office for not providing the security needed to keep the fans for doing what they did.

If that's the case, we need to hold the same high restraint standard for cops when they face unarmed civilians.

you might be legally justified, too. of course, it's unclear if artest even went after the right guy, but let's pretend he did. what's happening is that his employer (the NBA) has determined that they don't exactly like the fans being assaulted by the players -- they people who are, afterall, the ultimate consumer of the NBA's product.

i think an apt comparison would be your boss's 18-year-old nephew egging your car so you pummel him. while you might be somehow justified in going after the guy, i doubt your boss would be too happy about it.

what NHL incident are you referring to? i don't recall a fan having his head smashed into the ice, but i don't watch a lot of hockey. what happened to the player? slap (shot) on the wrist?

that's not what "we're" saying at all. what the league is saying is that "there are proper procedures in place for unruly fans being dealt with -- rushing into the stands to attack fans is not going to be tolerated." no doubt they'll increase security because of this.

i agree that cops need to show restraint in dealing with unarmed civilians, but i think david stern's influence doesn't reach beyond the NBA.

Well I hate to say it, but this shouldn't have happened to begin with. No fan should be able to do what started all this bullshit. That could've been something that could've ended his career thrown at him. It could've been anything. Could've struck him in the eye for example.......and he was already trying to calm himself down, laying on his back, doing nothing. I think not only should the players be punished, but some kind of severe punishment be sent out to Management, and the ones in charge of making sure the players can play, without worrying about something being thrown on them from the stands.

I wish the players would speak up about security behind the benches. It's the only sport where the fans are actually close enough to come in physical contact with the players, or throw things.

Artest was wrong, and is a nut case..........but I'd have to say, that I'm not about to sit there and just let a fan throw a cup of spit or shit on me.......LOL
and to let them come on the floor like that.....man!!! The public can complain and ask for these guys to be burned at the stake for this.....but I'm going to be picketing the next hockey game, where they just stand there and let those guys fight, and the fans enjoy it.
