does anyone have one? The guy at the appliance store in town was raving about them. I looked at some reviews on line and they're all over the place. They either love them or hate them, very few in the middle.

I'll probably get a weber, but I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these grills. They're different. Just an on and off switch for the burners. Heating temp is controlled by dampers on twin chimneys at the top of the grill unit.

overrated how? I'm not in the market for a $1,000 grill, and the people I've talked to who own them are very happy. they mention the parts too.

Consumer's reports latest gas grill ratings...in order of rating by grill size.

    Ratings GAS GRILLS

    CR Quick Recommendations

See a summary of test findings and Quick Picks--the choices that merit first consideration including any CR Best Buys.

Expect to spend between $200 and $500 for a grill that can handle most of your cooking needs. Spending more may get you more stainless styling and a few additional convenience features, but not necessarily better performance.

While most grills flare up momentarily when loaded with fatty foods, the key is whether they keep burning. Tested models that flared up more than others include Napoleon Ultra Chef UP405RBPSS (12), Ducane Standard Series 1605SHLPE (13), Jenn-Air 720-0163 (Lowe's) (18), Ducane Standard Series 1305SHLPE (20), George Foreman GBQ440 (22), Kirkland Signature (Costco) [Item 963157] 720-0193 (23), Frigidaire Gallery GL30LKEC (25), Kenmore (Sears) 16329 (30), Viking T Series VGBQ300-2RTL (31), Coleman Back Home Select 6000 994-7A726 (36), and BBQ Grillware 720-0001 (Lowe's) (46).

The Ratings rank gas grills by overall score within size. See Quick Picks for grills that combine high performance and value.

    Quick Picks

Best for most; high-scoring midsized grills; all are CR Best Buys:
1 Vermont Castings, $400, CR Best Buy
    5 Char-Broil, $270, CR Best Buy
9 Thermos, $300, CR Best Buy
10 BBQ Grillware, $200, CR Best Buy

Top performance makes the Vermont Castings VM400XBP (Home Depot) (1) a fine choice. The Char-Broil Advantage Series 463453305 (Lowe's) (5) adds more cooking space, a griddle, and better searing, though it lacks a fully rolling cart. Consider the Thermos Stainless 461262006 (Target) (9) for its mostly stainless construction, fourth burner, and generous cooking area and shelf space, and the BBQ Grillware GSF-2616 (Lowe's) (10) for its fine searing, long-warranty burners, and low price.

If you often cook for a crowd; both are CR Best Buys:
29 Great Outdoors, $500, CR Best Buy
33 Brinkmann, $300, CR Best Buy

Both deliver lots of cooking and shelf space for the money. The Great Outdoors Pinnacle TG-560 (29) has mostly stainless construction, a fifth burner, and an infrared burner for better searing. The Brinkmann Pro Series 4400 810-4400-0 (Walmart) (33) trades stainless-steel styling and some performance for much lower price that includes free assembly.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    For smaller groups and tailgating:
    44 Weber, $180

The portable Weber Q 396001 (44) offers better performance without sacrificing cooking space than many other small grills. You can take the grill off the cart for tailgating. Price is $265 with cart and adapter.

Holland grill - neighbor has one. Its just a slow cooker/smoker in my opinion.
He'll put a layer of soaked hickory chips (or for a real kickass, the wood from old tobasco barrels) and cook ribs or whatever on it for a few hours. Its good for that....but he told me it was free, otherwise he wouldn't bother.

If you want to sear a steak or cook quickly, the holland wont work for that. At least the model that he has anyway.
