My company has a playoff pool. I need help.

The basic rules for the playoff pool are as follows:

    RULES:

    Pick players/team as follows:

    12 Forwards
    8 Defense
    2 Goalies
    1 Goon
    1 Team
1 Player to score the Game Winning Goal

Players can be picked from any Conference. Points will be awarded as follows:

    Forwards/Defense: 1 Point awarded/goal or assist

    Goalies: 2 Points awarded/win
    1 Point deducted/loss
    4 Points awarded/shutout

Goon: 1 Point awarded/2 penalty minutes
    2 Points deducted/goal or assist

Team: Team points are awarded or deducted based on the team’s +/- divided in half (0.5 for win, -0.5 for loss)

Game Winning Goal: 3 Points/game winning goal

    ------
    any ideas? thanks,

OK - I am assuming that you pick one set of players for the whole playoffs, right? If so, you would weight your selections based on which players you expect to be there in the latter rounds.

My forwards - Alfredsson (OTT), Heatley (OTT), Staal (CAR), Spezza (OTT), Gionta (NJD), Datsyuk (DET), Zetterberg (DET), Kariya (NAS), Gomez (NJD), Shanahan (DET), Williams (CAR), and Modano (DAL).

My defense - Lidstrom (DET), Zubov (DAL), Schneider (DET), Timonen (NAS), Redden (OTT), Rafalski (NJD), Kaberle (CAR), Chara (OTT)

My goalies - Legace (DET) and Kiprusoff (CAL)

    My goon - McGrattan (OTT)

My team - Ottowa (though I'm really pulling for the Canes!!!)

    GWG - Alfredsson (OTT)

** If you pick a different set of players every round, my list would be way different! **

yeah, you stick with your players thru the whole thing. Half my company is canadian, and they're running the whole thing. I'd like to give a good show for the US, southern folks. Thanks,

The only downside to my list would be if the Senators or Red Wings made a very unexpected early exit in the playoffs. I'd be in big trouble then.

There are some notable names missing from my list, such as Jagr. Jagr may score a bunch in the first round, but I ultimately do not see the Rangers going far (they may not even make it out of the first round).

Well, the wings have had trouble with the oilers this year…a lot of the games went to overtime. I would have rather have faced the avs first. Dats and Schneider might still be hurt.

yeah, you've really put all your eggs in one basket. more than Jagr, I think the biggest name missing is Joe Thornton. The sharks are gonna be dangerous in the playoffs (with Vokoun out, they should handle the Preds) and Thornton was the league scoring leader. The guy had almost 100 assists. Cheechoo is another I'd have on the list. Possibly Danny Brierre.

Yup - had Cheechoo and Thornton on my list too. I basically picked Kariya, Gomez, Williams, and Modano because I think the Preds, Devils, Canes, and Stars will go deeper.

It's hard to go wrong with Ottowa players. With the Canes missing Cole, they are my pick to represent the east in the finals, though I hope I'm wrong. The Senators score in bunches, and their defense is pretty darn good.

LOL - I meant to say my initial "pencil and paper" list before I made the cut down and posted.

I won't be one bit surprised to see the Sens get dumped in the first round. Hasek's doubtful. That's a lot of pressure for Emery to withstand and he looked shaky at times down the stretch.
