The Tarantino thing threw me off, too. But I guess it did what they intended - it got my attention.

    Does it have subtitles?

I'm glad someone here said there were subtitles, because I originally wanted to see this. I'm not gonna put down theater money though to go read. If I wanted to read Hero I'd buy the book.

i was in the wrong frame of mind when i saw it. i had an exhausting week and a crappy day.

you've seen crouncing tiger? you've seen this.

don't plae too high an expectation upon this so you won't be disappointed.

it's pretty, but the story didn't appear until 1/3 into the movie. too slow to start -- no hook. it's not a very western movie.

in fact, i think i was confused -- i kept waiting for the "tarantino" to come out. that's all i had heard about it really, that tarantino did it.

it was not a tarantino movie.

    yes, subtitles.

if you have not seen it, please do not read any further:

anyhoo, for me, it really did not matter much that it was not a tarantino movie. i didnt have expectations when i went. could be why i enjoyed it so much. i liked the previews i saw, and went with it. of course i didnt see that crouching tiger movie, but i dont have any idea what that movie is about anyways.

i think the beauty of this chinese film is the contrast between the story the nameless assassin told the king (regarding the assassins he supposedly killed) versus the truth. it was shown in a totally different color, reality and story of events. the setting, outfits, special effects, etc. was told so that i started to realize what it really is, not the other! paying attention is very crucial! i dont think i am explaining this clearly. i liked that the contrast of the lie and the truth was deftly presented. ok, that was what i was trying to say! whew!

i like the fact that the king was perceptive...candles or no candles. i liked the fact that the king cried at one point toward the end. i felt his pain. he did his job and did it regardless of his feelings. i liked when snow screamed after she realized she killed the love of her life. i was totally in awe with broken sword. i thought he was not true to snow...or to his belief, etc. he was. he was the hero, IMO. he knew what it will take to end the hate. i didnt get the caligraphy and the swordmanship thingie, but i didnt care. i dont know either, so hey, i cannot relate. it was all about choices in the end, and i liked the choices made.

i was impressed by the relationships between lovers (snow and broken sword). also, the relationship between teacher and student (broken sword and moon). talk about eastern flav! definitely NOT western.

broken sword stopped in battle when a splatter of water hit his love's face! the opponent understood and walked away! i liked that a lot. i am such a sap!!!

Miramax is known to rip people off, which is why they are relasing like 6 versions of kill bill. Now they are getting people to watch this movie based on QT's name..pretty damn sad.

tarantino didn't persuade miramax to bring the movie to the US, they had already paid for the production of it and was just waiting for their other big movies to go through before bringing it over. They slapped his name on it to capitalize on kill bill fans.

that's the main reason this movie is number one right now.

If it stays #1 it will be because it's actually entertaining.

if some miramax fool used tarantino's name merely for profit, and the movie is not even good, you know Q will not let that b/s fly like that. i am sure a bunch of monies was involved!

about kill bill. you can only beat a dead horse 6 more times. 7 is just ludicrisp! ("not to be confused with sugar cookie crisp!")

good one, tho. people are just stupid nowadays!

they aren't releasing 7 movies of kill bill, just 6 version of it on dvd. It is something like this:

    kill bill 1
    kill bill 2
    kill bill 1 & 2 box set
    kill bill 1 special edition
    kill bill 2 special edition
kill bill directors cut (1 & 2 together as one movie)

dude, ignore me, i am just being facetious. my point, which i cant remember now is that...

we dont have to be reeled into that "rip off". they can put that all out there for commercial or profit purposes, but in the end, it is us who decide.
