Yeah, I figured that in. Plus the craziness of the crowd.

But, in big games Kenan is plenty damn loud.

No. Seriously, [more laughter] it is.

I mean it dammit. And the fans are plenty energized when the team is good. But let's look at the last 30 years of history. Really good coach driven away for being too boring. Replaced by quite possibly the single most inane, boring, and unexciting individual to walk this planet. That guy is replaced by a hotshot who brings the excitement back, but leaves for his dream job. Able assisstant hired as a panic move almost single handedly causes the program to be bumped down to 1AA. Rah rah alum brought in to fix things long term. Jury's still out on him.

After a while you get kind of sick and fucking tired of the yo-yoing. Either be good or suck out loud, but fucking pick one already.

Far better recruiting base, less competition, and far more school devotion to the sport.
    :lmao:
Uh ... no. Off the top of my head, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, and Virginia would certainly be higher. I imagine that several other states would be more fruitful than N.C. as well. Hell, just look at the number of recruits out of S.C. the past decade as opposed to N.C. We're not producing near as many studs as we used to, and there are far more DI schools per capita in North Carolina than most other states (and quite possibly the most of any state).
I can't decide if it's a good thing to be as deluded a fan as you are, or a terrible thing. Personally I'd rather be realistic, because it leads to less frustration.

What is UNC's record over the past few years against FSU and Miami?

If you mean competitive in the sense that we can play on the same field as them and upset them from time to time, I would agree with that. Even N.C. State has done that. But I was talking about being competitive in the sense of winning as many games and challenging for ACC championships. We can be good enough to pull the occasional upset, but we can't be good enough to play with those guys week in and week out.

If you were being realistic, you would see that UNC has already been competitive at very high levels - twice. And what was the one thing that changed those situations? The coaches left.

So, as usual you have to interject your idiotic opinions into things and come off looking like a fucking dumbass. In fact, we have already had this debate a while ago here and the one team that was closest to being a consistent (and easn't already one) top 25 caliber team was in fact UNC. Isn't that right Kent?

Yes we won a lot of games under Mack Brown, in part by doing like N.C. State does now and scheduling a bunch of patsies. Being "competitive at very high levels" would have gotten us at least once to something better than the Gator Bowl, wouldn't it? That's the best bowl we went to under Mack. That 1997 team was special and deserved to go to a better bowl, but it was also blessed with some once in a lifetime recruits that we probably won't ever see again.
Still sad your buddy ColinG left? Seriously, you consistently make a fool of yourself more often than pretty much anyone else on this board, and every time you do it, you respond by calling other people idiots. That's classic, dude. But honestly, I think if you just spent some time actually reading and gaining some knowledge, you'd be wrong much less often and not need to rant like a man who just got ass-raped by escaped convicts.
Oh, so UNC fans got together and decided that UNC was the closest to being a consistent top 25 team? Color me shocked. Hey, I wish you were right, but you aren't. We have too few recruits coming out of N.C. these days, too much competition for those recruits (not only from in-state schools but national powers as well), and not enough support for football at the school.

And regarding the crowd noise thing, the problem isn't the coach, it's the students. A Tar Heels game is essentially the same as a Panthers game because many people don't show up until the end of the first quarter, a bunch leave before the end, and the people who are there don't make any noise.

Sure we can. We were damned close. Mack's last 6 years were 9, 10, 8, 7, 10, & 11 wins. And no, we didn't beat FSU, and in fact the gap was glaringly obvious to anyone at that matchup of top 5 teams in Kenan in 1997. But here's the thing - it was clear that UNC had teh athletes to compete. Mack was just starting his long and distinguished history of getting outcoached in big games. Oh, and guess who UNC whalloped in the Gator Bowl at the end of that year? :woot:
