    Wow.

    I'm very surprised.

I'm happy Maser is gone. That just hasn't worked out.

I guess Mathis gets another fresh start. But ive been wondering if Mathis was on roids prior to being a Panther. I recall someone posting before and after pictures of him a while ago here. Seems he grew alot in a short time. Maybe with the NFL testing and our prior steroid incident he had to get off them. Hence, the lack of strength we saw in him getting pushed around most the year. He was supposed to be one of the strongest at the combine.

Combining a story and comments made on this board, Mathis was strong in the upper body at the combine, but the most important strength for an OL is lower body.

I think he gets a new start too, but we need a viable alternative. Someone commented he was not a great prospect before the combine, and he's only played well here and there.

    Marty Speaks..

"Obviously, these are difficult decisions. Any time you spend five years with people who have worked as hard as they have and have helped you achieve a certain level of success, such as a Super Bowl appearance and another NFC Championship game, it is very difficult to come to the decisions we came to today. They are all good coaches and good people. It just came down to a gut decision that we made in an effort to improve."

The Fassel thing was just a power struggle. Fassel only agreed to come in under the condition that he'd get to call the plays, Billick kept butting in (as is the right of the head coach, I guess), and Fassel basically laid out an ultimatum that he could either be allowed to do his job or just move on. Moreover, the idea that Baltimore's offense dramatically improved without him is actually a fallacy. Fassel is a good offensive mind and would fit well here, although I imagine an in-house promotion is more likely.

Regarding the move, I think Henning deserved to stay but was scapegoated for fans and to spare Jake (no excuses in '07). There was certainly an element of rigidity that made even me frustrated with Henning at times, but nothing deserving firing. I'm actually ok with the decision, though, because I think it can be good to shake things up and I hope it means that Fox will be more open to consider new directions and new personnel. If we fire Henning, but keep Crossman as well as Hankton, McCadam, etc then I think I'll throw up.

I look at the more productive offenses (San Diego, Indy, New Orleans) and can't help but think how dominant we could be with a good, top 5 offense. We'd never get there with Henning I don't think. Might be impossible to get there today with the cap.

I can understand Henning and even Maser, but I've liked Rod Perry. I don't know if we'll gain anything by firing him, but then again, you could say the same thing regarding the other two. I think we're just looking for a shake-up, and there's probably not much downside to that.

Henning ball is Marty ball, dude. And we don't have the QB to run a Moore or Payton offense.
