As a few of you know I am trying to repair (via a new motherboard and processor) but ran across this deal and said to hell with it. Dell is ruinning a 1 day special and here is what I get

    P4 2.4Ghtz processor with 533 FSB
    80 Gig hard drive
    256 DDR Ram
    Keyboard and optical mouse
    Windows XP Home Edition
    48x CD RW
    Integrated 3D video
    Sound card, non integrated
    Nic card
    all for 349.00
Heck the motherboard and processor and Ram I was looking at was going to be 249.00! So for 100 more dollars I get essientially a case, 80 gig hard drive, 48x CD/RW. Deal runs out at midnight on the 28th

Agreed "if" it were anyone other than Dell or Gateway both of which I have never heard of anyone ever having problems with. That and it comes with a 1 year in house warrenty

I`m building mine just for the fun of it. I`m under no time frame, can pick and choose the components, experiment with different set-ups, but thats just me.
Sounds like a good deal though, PP.

I jost bought 5 new dells for the office. Pretty much the same setup but they had 17" monitors for 399 each.
Up until now I've built all of ours. It's not worth my time for 400 bones.

Realize that you are getting low performance versions of every component or the bare minimums (256 RAM and Windows XP - HAHAHAHA!!). And I wouldn't do integrated video to save my life. Not unless you are planning on buying your vid card separate.

80 gig hard drive is probably a cheap 5400 rpm
256 ram is not enough and its probably 2100 which is the crappiest perfomance out there
    keyboard is a keyboard.
    XP home -blah..get xp pro
    intergrated video sucks..period
I can tell you the motherboard is a piece of shit without ever seeing it. Dell wouldnt know a decent motherboard if someone smacked them in the face with one.

the dell cases suck ass. They are hinged to open like a door and they are a pain in the ass to get in to. The ide cables get pinched up the case hinges. The processor has a piece of shit heatsink with a layer of plastic pink goo for "thermal paste". They put a duct from the one case fan to the processor for cooling.

My Gateway motherboard just died. 3 years, 5 months. The warranty, of course, went to three years. I'm guessing the motherboard has some kind of timer on the fucking thing. But the Gateway I had before that one? Almost 6 years. Lightning hit the apartment building and fried it through the modem.

AMEN. And chances are its one of those boxes that you can absolutely forget about upgrades later on. Thats why they are so cheap.
