What am I missing? The protection of that unit is 365 Joules. Most home theater protectors are rated up around 2500 to over 4000 Joules. Also the warranty on that one is way lower (not that I would put much into that.

It seems like all the money for that one is going into the battery backup which is useless for home entertainment.

The Joules refers to the level of surge protection it provides. That one isn't even in the ballpark of most. Personally I wouldn't care for battery backup for a home theater. I can't imagine it would power it for more than a few seconds. I'd rather put money into it's level of protection.

as to what level it protects, i don't know... but it protects it...

not all plugs are battery back-up, but all are surge protected

I like the fact that in a power surge, when all the lights flicker off and on, go off and then come right back on, all my stuff stays on... especially if I'm recording to DVR, it's non-interrupted

I don't expect to be able to sit and watch tv after the power goes out... I'm just saying, monster surge protectors are $80 and your shit still gets cut off

Monster is shit. You can spend half as much money for twice the product of what they offer for pretty everthing they sell by going with a different brand.

I'm just saying that that protection level is way low. I just bought one at walmart just as a decent power strip for random things that is double that for $7.

Ideally, you should use both. A battery backup saves your system in terms of brownouts and such, constant powering on and off can be damaging to your setup as well.
