That's not TOTALLY true. Most of it I agree with, but a gold plated HDMI cable will last longer than one that's not. The picture can become lost without a Gold Plated cable as the end collects some corrosion. The gold plating prevents the corrosion. In general when you set it up it is equal, but the gold plated will hold the better picture longer.

That doesn't mean you have to buy the Monster HDMI cable. Wal-Mart had one for $15 recently that was gold plated... pissed me off too because I'd just paid $30 for one before finding out.

Until they close shop, change their pricing, etc, it's the only place you need to know about.

It's amazing the bs stories you get from BestBuy and other big box stores when buying at High Def t.v. and needing a cable. They do the same thing as the moster cables...send digital signals (1s and 0s).

Cable scams have been going on forever. The Hifi world is home to $300 per meter connector cables.

    snake oil. it sells.

I just bought a 15 ft HDMI from monoprice last month... Great price and it was delivered in less than 4 days.

dad got a new hdtv and needed an hdmi, walmart... maybe $20, when he hooked it up he was blown away

out of curiosity, bought another for $90... he said the picture quality was not even close... FWIW

lucky for me, directv gives them for free

edit: after eading that, i guess he could have had the wrong version cable for his tv... hmm
