Bought a 50" LG plasma at hhgregg a few weeks back. I wasn't looking to buy that big, or get anything top of the line and price was important. Considering this is the first decent TV I've purchased in over ten years I am very pleased with the picture and even more so the price ($690). That was too good a deal to pass up. Glare isn't much of a problem since it's in an underlit den now and will soon be going in an equally underlit basement.

Much like my parents were the last people on the planet to buy a color TV in the 70s, I think I was the last person to buy an HDTV.

I've suddenly found myself watching even more sports than I already was and ODing on the discovery channel (Planet Earth rocks)

Fuck it. I am going big. The cabinet I have only allows for a 30
across, where as I can put up to 60" across above my fireplace. Bear with me and my diminsions.

    60" across and 27.5" tall
6" deep mantle, 17" from mantle to top of gas fireplace (unvented).

Will the heat that comes from the fireplace be ok for a tv with the depth of the mantle (6")?

I am not sure but there is a huge amount of heat generated by these flat screen TV's as they take way more electricity then the old crt ones.
So it is very important top have could air circulation for especially a 60 inch one. Mine is only a 40 inch one and it is very warm air coming out of the top.
And my old CRT TV 32 inch one took 92 Watts and this 1-1/2 old Sony LCD takes 210 Watts~! just a heads up.
