Disclaimer for Builder: Please take no offense to this, think about it objectively as I would like to have your input.

I have several friends who are gay. Several meaning, at least 6 that I am very close to and at least 15 that I associate with either in my work or we have mutual friends. Of those 15 or so, at least 8 of them are atheists, and 5 of them agnostic, only leaving 2 that are believers. Has anyone else noticed this and if so, what could possibly be the connection?

I had, which is why I asked Fred what I did.
I'd guess it has direct relation to the whole Leviticus thing, which I've not paid attention to in any real regard. I do know there are a lot of people who probably judged gays, especially in early times of having come out, that caused bad feelings and resentment.

In the end, God loves all, and that overrides all, IMO. That should go for people who are bigots and racists just as much as anything else, of course. But I've long believed that someone suggesting that he's doing something in the name of God doesn't make it God's word or will.

PS - you really do know a lot of gay people.

Yes, I believe it's because "the church" has condemned them for the most part. So many of them have been told they are going to hell if they don't change and they can't change so it's easier for them to just believe God doesn't exist.

Some of the gay people I know, I really can't believe are gay.. I think they just feel like they are misfits and surround themselves with gay people so they can fit in somewhere. I don't mean that to sound harsh, does it? I think it's sometimes the same with agnostics...it's sorta the 'in' thing.

That does make sense. People hide behind all kinds of stuff in order to feel like they are part of a group or something.

I believed in god long before I believed I was gay. The nonbelieving status happened over a period of time that ended well before I came out even to myself. For me, there's no corrolation other than I have known myself like I know noone else (and not just in the biblical sense for the smartasses). I think that finding yourself allows you to accept the things that you have always known but have been taught to fear and repress.

I know you asked this from Tom, but I'd like to toss in my .02$.

You can only be told you are a devient or that you are going to hell so long before it begins to get the best of you.

As for the whole "being gay" cause it gives someone a place to be, I know a few that claim that they are gay yet they sleep with no one because no one measures up to their expectations as human beings. Yet, they are at the bars, they hoot and holler at hot men, and they masturbate furiously. But they won't sleep with other men. I think it's a personal choice, but I can't claim they aren't gay because I don't truly know what is in their hearts and minds.

Fred, The reason I singled Builder out is because he is agnostic and you aren't but I was speaking to everyone. Secondly, you and builder are the only two I would worry about ever hurting your feelings or making you think i'm not sincere in my question.

My other gay friends know me and know I wouldn't ask anything that I wasn't truly curious about.
