Hangartner I think will be ok. Better than Hartwig. the panthers don't seem that great at trading players. We despritley need some Free Agent OL help now, Hartwig will on the frist plane to Tampa-Bay.

CHARLOTTE -- The Carolina Panthers have released center Justin Hartwig, the team announced Tuesday. Hartwig started the first 15 games in 2007 but suffered a knee injury versus Dallas on Dec. 22 and ended the year on injured reserve.
Hartwig's release saves the Panthers $2.2 million under the salary cap.
Carolina had signed Hartwig, 29, as an unrestricted free agent in 2006. He sustained a groin injury in the regular season opener versus Atlanta and played in just two games with one start prior to being placed on injured reserve.
Originally a sixth-round draft choice by Tennessee in 2002, Hartwig spent the first four years of his career with the Titans. After appearing in three games as a rookie, he earned the starting center job during the 2003 preseason after never having played the position in his career before training camp.
Hartwig’s release is one of several changes along the offensive line since the end of the season.
Additionally, the Panthers have released guard Mike Wahle. The team has designated tackle Jordan Gross as its franchise player for the 2008 season, re-signed unrestricted free agent Travelle Wharton and signed unrestricted free agent guard Keydrick Vincent, who previously played with Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Arizona.

Bridges maybe, Vincent maybe, but Hangartner will be needed as the backup Center, and Mathis was moved to Tackle.

Admittedly Hangartner could still be reserve center and start at guard, but that would mean an entire shuffle of the line if one position went down. I can't see that at all considering they new the line needed work this year, and Mathis could be moved back from tackle, but he looked WAY better at tackle than he did guard.

Hangartner is what he is. Depth.

But yeah, Hartwig was never a world beater here, either.

And thanks, meat for the heads up on the money.

This isn't a salary cap move.

This is a "you suck so much, we couldn't trade you for a bag of beans" move.

    Harwig was a FA bust.

That free agent class that Hartwig and Kemo highlighted sure looks like crap right now.
