People with open minds will read the book(s) and decide for themselves. That's all I will ever ask of my children. You and your nephew have no idea what the books are actually about because you haven't read them. Are you afraid your faith won't bolster you enough to be influenced by the content?

And don't give me any crap about not buying a copy because that would be supporting witchcraft. Go to the library or borrow one from your friends - you know they have them. ;)

Oh, and I don't think schools should be using Harry Potter for literary study either. Maybe do some activities or have a Harry Potter week or something.

I have read the books and have tried to be objective, but its still a deceptive, yet fictional form of witchcraft indoctrinization. After reading the first two books and part of the third, I had enough and had to read more of my King James Bible just to get my head on straight.

If you saw my previous post, I just finished a book called "NewJack" by Ted Conover, a writer who spends a year as a Corrections Officer at Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, NY. An amazing, yet TRUE story of what it's like to be a corrections officer in one of America's most ruthless prisons. Why have fiction when you can read of some real horror stories.

Id like to see Howling Rowling spend time in Southwick Prison in England and then write on that. Not only would I read it, I'd be impressed

So if I agreed with Harry...would I be sane in your eyes?

    probably not.

and i'm not sure what you mean by "if i agreed with harry". you make it sound as tho by reading a book, you somehow say "this is what i want the world to be like" and actually expect that it might come to pass.

    oh, right.

Believe me when I tell you this that I'm not trying to be judgemental, but if you had to read some Bible after reading Harry Potter to get your 'head on straight', Harry Potter is not the problem. While I can appreciate the spectre of the kind of influence the books might have on kids, parental involvement should be a part of children reading the books. If that means not letting the kids read the books, that's fine; that's parenting. But the kids should at some point be able to decide for themselves. And that means they should be given the chance to read the books.

If that's the case, I'm as nuts as they come. :umno:

I like what my pastor says about Harry Potter...."Hell will be hotter for JK and Harry Potter."
