So I had to see what all the rave was about, so I sat down and watched the first 2 (so far) movies. I thought I might like it since I like that sort of thing. They were ok. I liked them more than I thought I would I guess. But I still don't see what all the fuss is about.

I'm wondering though why the teachers don't keep a better eye on the kids. And that thing Dobby reminded me of Lord of the Rings too much.

So should I keep going? I still have the third movie sitting here...is it a lot like the first 2? Harry getting in trouble and saving the day and the little greasy blond kid scowling the whole movie? How many are there?

The third movie is the best, IMO. It's got a different feel to it than the first two movies. Give it a try.

i gotta be honest -- the movies suck compared to the books. the movies leave out so much detail and skip entire plotlines. i don't know if i've ever said that before.

This is true. The books are soooo much better than the movies.

i was expecting them to be way more kiddie than they were. the plots were actually well crafted and the mysteries actually reasonably deep. the first one seemed really shallow until the end sort of reveals that it wasn't what you thought it was (which was a relief).

the only thing i don't like are the dumb names (dumbledorf, griffindor, etc).

That's true with most movies that are book based. I was a hold out for a long time until the movies started showing on cable. I have seen them all so far and liked them.

Having only partially read the books and partially watched the movies, I can say the "craze" is question is on the strength of J.K. Rowling's writing. The movies are extra.

I agree on the names. There are a couple of websites that explain the names. Seems a lot of thought went into naming those characters. The thing I don't understand is why people, including the Pope, are so against these movies. It's just a movie.

It presents the idea of magic in a way that they find threatening. People who are naturally drawn to mysticism and the supernatural, especially young people, will have their curiosities piqued to a degree that alarms those who stand to lose from it.

It just seems the Pope would have more things to worry about with all the molesting priests running around. Some people just need a reason to complain.
