    Have me intrigued.

Harrington is visiting for 2 full days, and you gotta know he's gonna give his best friggin sales pitch. No one else is scheduled for two days.

Fox has publicly stated he's not completely sold on Weinke as the starter, and Weinke will need to prove himself, basically to Henning, during this mini-camp.

It seems a stupid, stupid pick. This is the best scenario I can think of, and it's not too great:

Go into the year with Weinke, Peete, and Harrington. (and no DE's  ). See how they both do. If Weinke shines, and Harrington looks capable of taking the reigns and actually being a young, franchise QB for longer than old man Winky could be, we could either have Weinke as a good backup, or trade him. If Weinke sucks, then we've got Harrington to throw in there, and we'll likely have another top ten pick.

That's the best thing I can see to signing Harrington, and me no likey.

So why all the mystery? I don't see our interest in Harrington being that great of trade bait, except MAYBE with Detroit. I also see Defense, even Jammer, as a better pick with the #2 overall.

Again, if we picked him, i'd be excited, just b/c of the Golden Boy hype, but I can't say I think it's the right move.

Fox never publicly stated that. He said he was open for competition. The rest was overblown spec...as far as Harrington: maybe.
IF the staff thinks he's the greatest thing they've seen in a while, and with his arm strength being average, I don't think he is. But let's say he is. If we can trade to 4 or 5 and get him, in addition to immediately dealing Weinke, then go for it. Otherwise there is NO reason to do this. You don't keep both quarterbacks, if Weinke isn't it he's not it...if he is, or could be, you can wait because there will be better value anywhere past this year.
So in the end we'd be filling our current needs with an extra 2 and possibly an extra 3 rather than the #2 overall. Anything less isn't plausible and (especially including keeping both QBs) can be considered somewhat damaging.

Who would even consider taking weinke and what could we get for him? not much IMO. Then who would be our QB this year? Peete? Surely we would not throw Harrington in the fire like we did Weinke.

Agreed. But if Weinke proves a good qb, why start Harrington? Which means, why draft Harrington, unless you're done with Weinke?

I want to keep Weinke at least another year.

they have to bluff in order to trade down to some team that really wants him...the bills need a qb, the raiders will need someone to repace gannon soon (and they have two number ones).

let's think about it for a while: weinke can't throw the short pass accurately and is not very mobile...he isn't exactly a young guy that has a lot of time to develop...and now he has a bum shoulder. harrington out-performed carr during his workouts. Since he played so much last year...that little incentive laden contract is going to count a lot against the cap.

Who knows, they may even trade Weinke...I don't beleive the cap hit would be that bad since all of his incentive money goes on next year's salary.

I agree with the thinking that Harrington's presence here is more for encouraging a trade than anything else. Both Detroit and Buffalo would be interested in him. Buffalo probably more than Detroit.
Trade w/ Buffalo for their first and a second this year and next and take whoever is leftover between Peppers and Jammer. Buffalo gets the guy they want in Harrington and our decision is made for us.

That's too sweet a deal for us, and could never happen.

It depends on how the cards are played, meat. If we continue to show interest in Harrington and Detroit does the same, it would benefit both of organizaions. That is IF Buffalo is really wanting Harrington that bad.
Buffalo gets antsy to get their guy and with 2 teams picking before them showing interest, they look to move up to ensure they get him. Detroit benefits because they are more interested in Peppers or Jammer than Harrington, with McMahon's showing last year. That leaves us in a rather comforable position. Hell, even if it were just a first and this years secon, it would be a good deal. Throwing in next years second would depend on how the Panthers played it.
A deal like that could just as easily blow up in our face and Pep and Jam could BOTH be gone, but that is less likely. Usually these moves are made with gentlemens agreements as to what will transpire.
Either way, it's just an idea to toss around. It could happen, but it this point the chances are just as good that it won't.
