    The hope was that he'd sign something reasonable, especially after no DEs got big deals this off-season.

    4pm today is the deadline to get Hardy signed to a long-term deal. If he's signed to an extension after that then the Panthers are not allowed to use the franchise tag for the length of that contract, which is why teams never do it. So if Hardy isn't signed today then he's either going to get franchised again at a 20% raise over his current figure or be an unrestricted free agent.

    So we'd probably get a third as compensation?

    And I guess we might have a slight chance to deal him before he hits FA.

    My guess is that they don't franchise him again, then if he's open to a reasonable extension they keep him and release CJ, otherwise CJ stays and Hardy walks.
