The refusal by some voters to give anyone a 1st Ballot Hall of Fame vote is ludacris. Rickey Henderson did not get votes from some voters simply because it was his first time on the ballot. Greg Maddux has retired, when he's eligible some of the voters will refuse to vote for him. How do players like Mantle, Mayes, Aaron, Seaver, Brett, Ryan, etc not get votes from some of those who cast ballots. I have heard some of the voters proclaim that "I never vote for a player on the first ballot" INSANITY !

The original class of Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, and Christy Mathewson, and maybe Cy Young? None of them were unamimous, so some of the old farts who are baseball writers will always pull this stupid stunt.

Yes, and that's the point. Does a player's career get better as the years roll away ? I heard Bill Conlin try to explain one time why he didn't vote for a player on the first ballot, it was sad.
