You call this shit? It looks a little like historic Richmond to me. As a matter of fact, Greensboro is the only major city (top 5) in NC that has its origional "main street" intact with buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. cities like Atlanta and Charlotte ripped up their downtown history years ago and those cities don't seem to have the kind of environment that you see in Cleveland, Chicago, Boston or New York. Those cities learned to preserve their history while combining the old with the new. Thats one thing that makes those cities more world class and cosmopolitan.

Most outsiders don't realize it, but Greensboro has a hoppin nightlife downtown. Come to downtown Greensboro on any night of the week, especially on Thursday thru Saturday nights and see for your self. You could easily get downtown Atlanta and downtown Greensboro confused. (no exageration) alot is happening in our city that outsiders aren't realizing yet. Outsidsers are still stuck on the sterotypes of "Greensboring". Greensboro's historical "main street" or Elm Street is full of night clubs, bars comedy clubs, small and international restaurants, theater, pubs, specialty shops and more!

If I want to see old-ass shitty buildings, I'll go to Old Salem. Greensboro is and always has been Charlottes bitch. Oh yea, those Night Clubs, Bars, clubs etc. are for the most part terrible and boring.

They must not be boring to alot of people because the night club lines can easily stretch a couple of blocks. I dare to say that Greensboro's downtown nightlife rivals Charlotte's

Also I think the future projects for downtown Greensboro only indicates that the city is headed in the direction of becoming a major urban destination

my good friend owns a bar in downtown Greensboro. It's struggling, and so are most bars in that area. It wont survive. Maybe older fellas like yourself get off on old buildings, but my generation hates it. No way does the Charlotte nightlife rival Greensboro, that there, shows your age.

for the most part Charlotte does not envy Greensboro because its to busy envying Atlanta. But one thing the Queen City envy's about Greensboro is historical preservation. Charlotte regrets destroying its old buildings now. Its the only city in NC that doesn't have its orginal 1927 Carolina Theatre. Greensboro, Durham and Winston-Salem have all preserved their Carolina Theatres.

So it doesn't surprise me to hear someone from Charlotte say great historical architecture in Greensboro looks ghetto.
