THE DOORS. Poetry infused music. L.A. Woman is one of the best albums of all time. Absolutely Live is one of the best live albums ever.

The Beatles.... Not my personal favorite, but I would have to say they are the best overall.

I'd have to argue for the Beatles as well. They were never a live act, though, and they only recorded for what - 7 years?

Still - hard to go against them.

I'm very surprised nobody has mentioned the Rolling Stones. 40+ years, legendary albums like Exile on Main St and Sticky Fingers (among others), still rocking. Jagger / Richards can write some fucking tunes.

I'd have to say the Stones are the Greatest Band of all Time. Not my favorite, but Goddam. They haven't had many great 'hits' for years, but Tattoo You came out after they'd been around for 17 years or so.

Gutter - I can't think of any newer bands that compete as 'Greatest Ever', because the older bands have like 20+ year head start of groundbreaking work .

Good point. I love the Allmans, but the Beatles influenced so many bands. The Dead was awesome too. I wish I saw them w/ Jerry.

Dylan influenced people, too - but not as a 'band'.

The Stones are not my favorite band, I'd have to vote for them or the Dead.

And here's another little gem from the dead.

    goin down da road
