    >> You don't ever play your hand to the press

which is why you shouldn't be getting your panties all in a knot. he may have come across as frank but i doubt that he showed our hand. besides, hurney and fox will call the shots while henning is wishing away ... like the rest of us who have been wishing for the same things and hinting at the same directions for months. it don't take a lot of imagination to guess at the Panther wish list. my guess is that they will get us a good young QB that most of us will be excited about despite any bs that came outa henning's mouth about palmer. maybe he's hinting we might trade up if palmer falls a little.

    >> That Mangum's the next step down from "Special", I don't know about that.

um, i thought TE was the 3rd position that came to his mind behind QB and WR ... kinda where this board has positioned our needs on offense. i was kinda surprised that that FB didn't jump off his mouth though he later indicates that he'd like to use hoover more as a situational guy than his everydown fb.

    >>There is no position on offense where we couldn’t be strengthened from the top.

    no, duh.

    >> Muhsin’s not 25 anymore and he makes a lot of money

    and he sucks

i wonder if they will gamble on foster and lamar (and brown and goings)

don't think you are gonna get your CB with that first pick, mag.

Not looking to land a DB. It's one of the choices. I was lobbying because Trufant's great value, and one of the guys who could help us. I figure if people can spout along with this whole OL deal we can open our minds to someone who could impact us too.

Like I said before, if Johnson's not there and Trufant is, Trufant's the best player at a need and value position.

for what it's worth, i agree with your thinking on the issue ad was just giving you a hard time. i really don't think you can put much stock in anything these guys are saying this time of the year ... course that may be just hopeful thinking as i really want a good young QB.

I am looking at it this way, Palmer and Leftwich will be gone (I don't value Leftwich as much as many of you do) and I don't want to reach for a late first rounder at #9.
So, say we get through day 1 without an opportunity to draft a QB. That would mean we're getting into St. Pierre range. If nothing else we can upgrade our #3 QB in the draft.
Chances are we'll sign a vet to compete for the starting job...and we haven't even signed Peete yet.
Boller and St. Pierre are the 2 QB's I saw as sleepers early on. Now it looks like Boller has appeared on the radar screen.
Chances are, the Panthers will get a first day QB...on the other hand will they load day one with offense only (WR, RB, QB). That I don't find likely with Fox being a D-minded coach.
Not saying I would hold out for St. Pierre, just saying if he were drafted by the Panthers it wouldn't be a bad thing.

It's just mightily frustrating, thinking that we could stay with Mangum as our TE, along with the other conclusions the story wants you to make. IMO, we gotta go for a young guy of consequence now, and the better guy if possible. To hell with playing him or not, you bring him in and you let him compete.
Just fristrating. I want to think we're just doing the smoke deal, and maybe so.

    >> mightily fristrating

i like that word. kinda a combination of frustrating and irritating. i can see getting a lotta use out of it when discussing the panthers. but at this point it's only mildly fristrating to me.

    >> I want to think we're just doing the smoke deal

yep, picked it up from moose

We put up much better numbers with basically the same personel just two years ago. Henning wants to know what the problem is, he needs to look in the mirror. He misused damn near every one on offense. Peete is his security blanket. If he leaves and a better QB comes in and is still limited by the way Henning runs the offense, Danny Boy is out of excuses and will be canned.

I try to give Henning the benefit of the doubt. I thought we were pretty dismal with the WCO. In fact we seemed to get worse each year. So I'm willing to give the new system time to develop. But if Leftwich falls to us and we take a pass, I'll be pretty pissed.
The sad thing is that we want to emphasize the run and there just aren't a lot of good running backs in the draft or Free agency. I wouldn't be adverse to Fargas in the second.

that's the thing out of all that, that I didn't like. Fuck having experience in Henning's system. I want the best guy we can go get, not the best guy who's on Henning's speed dial. I also don't want to sit on our hands, pass up great QBs, and get Brian St. Pierre just because Henning recruited him. Fuck all that. Get the best guys, not the guys that make for the best Henning Alumni.

As much as I like Leftwich, I'm starting to think Byron Leftwich=Sam Bowie healthwise.
